Following our new years days second half collapse at home to Coventry when comfortably leading one nil & looking to add to that when we conceded a sloppy goal & with going in at HT 1-1 we then in the we just imploded, conceding again & again, IMHO, mainly due to tired legs, the team been decimated with injuries & the bench looking more like a cresh caught up with Michael Carricks team, he even thought during the Coventry game he looked at the bench & thought, the age of he players looking back at him, I cant put these players, who were to young, out there

Up next were Aston Villa sitting in 2nd placed team in the PL, to face our injury ravaged Boro team & not much hope of anything respectable coming out of the FAC tie, but what a performance the whole team gave, losing out to a cruel, last minute badly deflected winner.

Chelsea followed the Villa cup game as we welcomed the Londoners for the 1st leg of the league cup tie, again the billionaires came to the Boro against our injury ravaged team, with not even scoring a home goal against Chelsea since 2006, we were hoping to, somehow, have something to take back to Stamford Bridge to make the second leg something to resemble a cup tie & wow, what came from that game, IMHO, given the circumstances with again an injury ravaged team, that again, fell to that curse when losing two important players, then to me, the following 90 minutes was up there with one of the best display I've seen from any Boro team in my 52 years following the mighty Boro

Which takes us to our last fixture, Millwall away, who were on a decent run themselves, but, with the Boro on a massive high following the Chelsea game could injury ravaged Boro get something from the game!

It didn't help Boro arriving late for the game, tired legs, debutants & then, bang, conceding an early goal, still jittery but hanging in there the Boro composed got back in to the game, drew level & in the end worthy winners, winning 3-1, Engel getting his 1st goal of the season, very technical player I expected his first goal would have been a 25 piledriver, they're all the same, so a 2 yard piledriver is as good. Jones added the second with a lovely finish, after good work from Azaz & Forss, coming on for the final few minutes scored the type of goal he is good at, to finish off the Lions & 3 points to the mighty Boro

With everything that's gone on this season, losing 5 of the first 6 games, drawing the other, a GD of minus 10, sitting bottom of the league, losing up to 50 goals from last season, not much time for project players to blend in & thrown in at the deep end Micheal Carricks team suddenly started to find their form, the players starting to believe in themselves & results improving that we now find ourselves in 9th place, sitting one point out of the playoffs, one foot in the league cup final & IF certain results go our way at the weekend we could occupy the final playoff spot, what a transformation

With the welcome addition of Ayling, for me our MOTM for the Millwall game, Azaz & a return of a couple of long term absentees in Forss who made a goalscoring return & maybe O'Brien, then there is a bit of light regarding the return of a number of long time absentees Michael Carrick will have the selection headache that all managers want

4 players who could play, if selected, with no fear of missing the Chelsea cup tie via injury are the Leeds duo Greenwood & Ayling, along with O'Brien & Azaz, all 4 are cup tied

15/1/1955 Boro 5 Rotherham United 1 – The first fixture on Teesside between both teams.

Great work, as usual Erimus. High time we put minnows like the Millers to the sword. Wing play a key element to getting through a packed defence.

And I think we will. 3-0. And then that little matter of Chelsea......

tunstall

Typical Boro written all over this one I think

Boro 1 Rotherham 1

2015 was the last time we beat them & actually scored past them at home, two draws & a 3-0 defeat later, in fact we failed to score past them at home in 1987 when winning promotion, again goaless, we're due a win, fingers crossed

I have a feeling we are going to batter Rotherham. How does it work out we play them again so quick?

Why must I feel like that . . . Why must I chase the 🐈

Was our Chairman from the 60's W S Gibson any relation to pubehead?

tunstall

Nosmo-King

Don't know W S Gibson however I recall the Thomas family ( 2 of them) being directors in the 60's. They had a relative - Peter Thomas- sports journalist on the Express. He often wrote about us - "Bonny Boro" he called us. Not that this helps in anyway!

Bud Wiser

Bit of a bogey side for us, these fuckers. Even going back to my first visit there for Big Mal's unofficial first game in charge where they got a last minute equaliser - so not to be taken lightly.

My only prediction is that Carrick will rest players.

I was at that game too Bud Wiser, Alan Roberts came on as sub for his debut, looking back I loved big Mals time here, good manager, with such a small squad he kept us up

Smoggers51

Great write up as always Erimus 👍Rotherham seem to be a bit of a bogey side for us but even with the distraction of the Chelsea game I feel we have enough firepower to beat them .I'm going for 3-1 to us.Incidentally due to Birminghams progression in the cup we have a free day 27th Jan 👍UTMB !!!

The last time we beat Rotberham at home was the only time my wife went to a Boro game, 3rd November 2015, the day our Kev passed away & asked the whole family to go in his memory

Rotherham have not won in 26 away games, the 2nd longest run in their history

Lets not make this a typical Boro game & IF we win & other results go oour way then we'll be in the final playoff place

Don't think it'll ever change Franks, change chairman, managers & players & one thing remains, 'typical Boro"
