Best game in w years for Jones, superb today, he covered every blade of grass, no wonder he was cream crackered at the end

Bud Wiser

Yes, a great and desperately needed win but it doesn't paper over the fact that all our summer signings look to be duffers with the possible exception of Van Den Ice Berg - or whatever he's called.
No surprises O'Brien has been top drawer. Just a pity he isn't ours.

Yea Southampton were supposed to play us on the 22nd, knocked back a week, Chelsea then become the 1st visitors to the Riverside

I've got a crap memory-I was sure our first game of season was Chelsea at home but have discovered we drew 1-1 at Arsenal then would (as you say Erimus)have played Southampton in first home game before Chelsea match
Apologies for doubting the Boro expert👍😁

If I didnt have it in my scrapbook I would have forgotten about it TBH
Reported for Boro misinformation on message board. Must try harder . . . Could result in a straight  :redcard: with no appeal at the RR inquiry

Other pundits, namely w00fie are available for such sought after slots . . .

Absolutely bouncing at the final whistle, couldnt fault any of the players, the attitude & commitment throughout the team from kickoff was 100% improvement & if they continue to show/play with that purpose then not only will the fans forgive the occassional concentration lapse at either end but, result & our league placings will improve

On another day we could have won comfortably with 3, 4 or 5 goals, though in the end the 2 we got were enough to win our 1st game of the season, get the 3 points & move off the bottom of the league

Jones followed very closely by Coburn were MOTM for me, with McGree back to his busy self

Francks left peg

Forgot what it feels like to have a Boro win. Can't stop smiling. Had my weekends ruined since August with the results we have churned out. UTB

Hopefully we can carry it on now into tuesday at Bradford & then Watford next saturday

If we do then its a totally different team to pre Southampton game

Johnny Howson 17 years since his football debut, some going, hes been a cracking signing for us, pronsbly the only gpod thing about Monks time here

MCGREE COBURN AND JONES NEED TO START EVERY GAME.... FOR ME THEY ARE OUR 3 MOST ATTACKING PLAYERS AND WE NEED GOALS AS OUR DEFENCE IS WEAK 👍
GET WELL SOON STEVE G

Still buzzing after yesterdays game

I still think that performance was as good as anything I seen us play last season

erimus74

Great photo, I've been critical of Silvera even to the point I didnt even want to see his name on the bench but Carrick shows here that he has confidence in the lad & as your waiting to get on the field you must feel 10 feet tall that after the indifferent start your manager has that much belief in you

It really isn't too difficult - attack with pace and we can cause uncertainty, panic and the potential for mistakes rather than this tippy tippy, laborious stuff offering the opposition time to set up defensively.

Use your assets!

Significant improvement.

We have to play to our strengths and our defence is still ropey.

My significant investment in Tuesday may yet to turn out to be rewarding. UTFB.

Interesting that Southampton set up exactly the same way as us with that passing from the back nonsense, so no wonder they're struggling! An ok system providing you've got the players to implement it. Unfortunately, we haven't... anymore.
We looked at our best yesterday counter attacking, where, imo, a 3-5-2 formation would not only add to this but strengthen our suspect back line.
