He did fantastically well for us last season. We did fall away badly in the latter few games. Almost like with win at Sheff U was the pinnacle. Still think he will get us going this season despite or obvious flaws one of which is physical and mental weakness. Only Hackney, Crooks(not in the 1st 11 with a full squad and Paddy(may not be here) I could describe as not absolute soft as shite fannies, just like MC.

Our loans last season improved us immensely. MC takes credit for them, let's hope he delivers similarly again, albeit a very tough ask.

Chuba going beyond his control. The money needs to be spent wisely something we have not been good at. Chuba was the glue to our transition. Let's hope they have a quality replacement in mind.

No idea what they see in Rogers, he's 3rd division at best and is adept at losing possession, Cocoa is streets ahead of him. Barlaser is lower championship standard. Coulson has gone backwards and Engels is hopefully more Giles like in attack and a significant improvement defensively. Keeper is an improvement.

Coventry is a shithole that wasn't bombed enough in WW2. We just made them look like world beaters. Weak all over the pitch. Their second goal was a farce of overcrowding, lack of desire and weakness, Rogers lost his man, Wright the goal scorer and gets in the way of Lenihan to assist Wright.

The win midweek was 11 v 10 against a poor uddersfeeled, flattered us.

Off to get my Huggies on. Suspect this season may be much more tricky than last. Not a MC out fan as he definitely has some good managerial attributes but being a fanny isn't one of them.

Carrick hasn't been helped by the signings - that much is true. Much as I like him I am seriously questioning bhis one dimensional tactics- which were found out in the final quarter of last season.

Collectively Scott, Gibbo, Bausor, Woody and Carrick are ALL culpable to varying degrees. Complete shit show

As things stand, I find it hard to disagree with & I normally wont have anything bad to say about Gibbo

Carrick cant be blameless in all this, teams regularly lose good players yet still learn to adapt, Coventry have lost 2 big game players, one a top striker & are still scoring goals & doing ok

We have to learn pretty fast, we're already adrift at the bottom

Blott

We were dreadful. Our left back took a roasting. Even I who knows nothing about tactics said to the lad beside me after 10 minutes said we need to double up.

3 on 1 you score everytime.

erimus74

That 3 on one was pathetic

I said as Jones received the ball & set off towards their goal, we'll mess it up & we did big style

Haha yes - you just knew they'd do that between them!

Jones could have continued his run, the QPR defender had 2 other players on his shoulder to watch out for & of all the 4 in that group Jones picks out the wrong man FHS 😔

Or at least get a shot on goal

The question mind, as I've said on another thread, is Carrick the new Woodgate, both teams weak throughout!

We'll soon find out Erimus. Like I said previously, he needs to change his formation or he is toast. His A Plan is suited to higher spec players not what we have. You wouldn't teach A-level Maths to students who have never done GCSE Maths before.

I don't want to see Carrick sacked. We have been here before. He would be replaced by someone like Steve Bruce. That would just be another short term fix and back to square one again.

We lost a major part of the first team when loanees went back and we were never going to be as strong.
We rebuld with young, inexperienced players and they will take time to bed in.

We can say what we want about the owner, the recruitment etc. We can lay a bit of the blame on all of them.
We have an inexperienced manager who has been, for want of a better term, stitched up.

In saying that though, Carrick needs to change things. The formation we play, and the players we have available, leave our defence massively exposed. He needs to start learning a few things.
His first priority is to stop us leaking the amount of goals we do. Reset, tighten up, and try to shut out our opponents as much as possible. We need a formation that gives us three or four in the middle of the pitch. The two that we play in the middle, no matter which two that is, have no protection or defensive skills.

Of the players we now have available, O'brien looks to have the biggest bite in his style. I would drop Howson completely and play Hackney-O'Brien-Barlaser. Spend the next fortnight coaching some defensive priorities to their roles.

This leaves us with a front three. For me, we absolutely have to play Mcgree and Forss as the two wide players. They both did well last season in them positions. That leaves us with a striker from Lath or Coburn.

This takes the heat off our new, young signings and gives Carrick a chance to start introducing them from the bench and easing them in slowly.

There is still a long way to go yet, but our manager needs to start getting a grip or we will end up with another fuckin bag of shite manager that nobody wants to see.

Totally agree with you Erimus, even the optimist in me is having niggling doubts about Carrick apparent failure to adapt to various team styles. Our short goalkiicks and trying to play the ball out of the box isn't working because we don't have the skill set to do it.As for short corners that makes my blood boil,!!!Get it in the box and who knows what might happen. While I'm ranting what's with this laying off players and sitting deep lark all about.I was always taught as a defender run at your man and harry him but don't lay off him. This looks like it's going to be a long hard season.I know it's early but right now I'll bite your hand off for 4th bottom.Rant over ,I'll be following the lads at Blackburn where hopefully we at least put up a fight.RED TILL I DIE !!! Agreed JT, but I just don't see Carrick making the changes he needs to defensively. Stubbornness will be his downfall like it is with most managers when you can't stop the down trend. No doubt he has been shafted with recruitment, the club have invested fuck all bar dieng that is proven quality at his level on a permanent. The jury is out on ELL, though he seems to do everything a striker should do except put it in the back of the net. Promotion, top 6 is gone, forget that now, this is all about steadying the ship and hopefully building season on season. As we build I would like to think with these prospects that we can add good proven quality to compliment it as we move forward.

I agreJohnny, I want Carrick to succeed, as I did Woiodgate, I was one of the few who believed in his press interview on taking over the job he vision of playing the game, I was excited to what we wre going to see, after the Luton draw & Brentford defeat it was clear we needed to toughen up to stand any chance of staying away from the wrong end of the table, unfortunatly we didnt & it cost him his job when Neil Warnock was brought in & rescued the boro

Yes & as you say, if we lost carrick then a Steve Bruce type will come in & it'll start all over again

Gibbo has shown one thing in his make up mind, when the fans turn he acts, no messing about & if Carrick persisits in this boring tappy football, conceding at will, under performing against the midtable teams then Gibbo will remove him

I agree Steely. He has to start being more versatile. Also, his coaches need to start earning their wage.

In spite of all this, there are actually plenty of positive signs there. We create plenty of chances and play some decent stuff in sections of the games. We need to stop conceding though because we will not outscore teams anymore.

Cunt needs to start changing it up. Instead of taking a striker off take a CB off for coburn ffs

there were no short corners yesterday.

If we sacked Carrick' tomorrow it won't make one jot to his wealth. You can't threaten a multi multi millionaire.

He had a good season last year. Started off badly this year, give him till Xmas.
