At long last proper footy is back this weekend

Thankfully that's the final boring, boring, utterly mind numbingly boring international break this year, happily till next March when we have to go through this tedious non footy weekend all over again

And with the boring IB, that's on a par with a pre-season friendly tournament, we have potentially two important players missing/injured, so thanks for nothing

Following our excellent 5-1 home win over Luton Town before the break, recording our second back to back wins of the season & 9 goals scored in the process we travel to  Oxford United who sit in 17th place in the Championship, the U's have only suffered the one home defeat this season (coming in their previous home game v Swansea) & play at a ground we haven't played at yet, Kassam Stadium, which was opened in 2001

Michael Carrick made a brave call v Luton & got it spot on. Burgzorg & Latee Lath replaced McGree & Conway, a forced change with Dijksteel starting at right back & Ayling moving across to deputise for Borges, missing due to sickness

Leading up to the game tfour questions
Will Michael Carrick ring the changes?
Will we record our first three wins on the bounce this season?
Who will start up front Conway or Lethe Lath?
For the umpteenth time, can the Boro finally kick on & show the division with consistency that we're the best in the Championship

If the players don't come through then my potential line up will be, which I think will be to strong for Oxford

Dieng
Dijksteel, Edmundson, Clarke, Ayling
Howson, Barlaser
Doak, Azaz, McGree
ELL

3/9/1966 - 1st away fixture between both clubs, Oxford United 1 Boro 1

Oxford v Boro will be the 14th away meeting between the two teams with the following record:

Won - 5
Drew - 5
Lost - 3
Goals scored - 22
Goals against - 18

Just the one away hat trick v Oxford United

24/11/1990 - Ian Baird became the clubs 47th different player to score a hat trick when he scored his one & only Boro treble & the clubs 32nd away HT in a 4-2 win

Away debuts/ last appearances v Huddersfield

20/4/1969 - Raymond Lugg made his final appearance before moving to Watford in November

Away penalties v Oxford United

26/10/1968 - Dicky Rooks became the clubs 41st different penalty scorer when scored our 70th away spot kick in a 4-2 win
24/11/1990 -  Ian Baird became the 61st different penalty scorer when scored our 90th away spot kick in a 4-2 win. Also the 11th time two penalties have been converted in the same game & the 1st in an away game

A number of players who played for both team

Gary Briggs - Boro no first team games / U's 1978/1989
Robbie Mustoe - U's 1986-1990 / Boro 1990-2002

Andy Campbell - Boro 1995-2002 /  U'S 2005 (loan)
Phil Gilchrist - Boro no first team games / U's 1995/1999 & 2006/7
Phil Whelan - Boro 1995-97 / U's 1997-2000
Dean Windass - U's 1998-99 /  Boro 2003-03
Dean Whitehead  - U's 1999-2004 / Boro 2013-15
Mark Wilson  - Boro 2001-05 / U's 2012
Tony McMahon - Boro 2004-12 / U's 2018-19
Tom Craddock - Boro 2005-09 / U's 2010-13
Jordan Rhodes - U's 2007 (loan) /  Boro 2016-17

Marvin Johnson - U's 2016-17 / 2017-21
Marcus Brown - U's 2017-2019 Boro 2019-22

Gary Briggs -  At the age of eighteen, Briggs signed for professional forms for Boro but didn't make any first-team appearances. Later that season, he moved to Oxford United. The fee was settled at the Football League's first-ever transfer tribunal. Briggs spent eleven years at the Manor Ground, where he received the nickname "Rambo" becoming a cult hero, winning the club's "Player of the Year" accolade three times.

Robbie Mustoe - Colin Todd signed Robbie from Oxford in July 1990.Robbie went on to make 325 appearances, scoring 25 goals, until his free transfer to Charlton in the summer of 2002.
An excellent servant for the Boro & the best compliment I can give him, is during his time under Bryan Robson who was signing world class players for big money, including him also playing in the same position as Robbie,  was always one of the first names on the teamsheet

C'MON BORO!

Cheers teamboro, hopefully Howson is only needed for a couple of games, hes a good replacement for so far player of the season Morris

Brilliant, just brilliant.

Couldn't agree more about Mustoe, he was great for us for 12 years. Decent shift that.

Not only a cracking player.  He does a lot of TV work over here as a football analyst when they show Premier League games.  He talks a lot of sense (he's done that over 10 years now).

I had the name Don/Dan in the back of my mind but convinced myself i was thinking of Barrlaser. Got some vague recollection of Guisborough connection now.

Erimus must of mentioned the name etc before.

Too Much Perspective

No Hayden or Aiden by the looks of it. Barlaser needs to bring his A game, and we could also do without any stupid distribution errors from Dieng.
When them two are on the pitch together, it's sometimes like the Laurel and Hardy of playing out from the back.

As one of them said to the other - That's another fine mess you've got me into......

erimus74

Confirmed, Aiden Morris out for a couple of weeks with a twisted knee, Howson more than likely step in & will be fine, not sure on Hackney yet, hopefully he'll start but if not, IMO, Barlasar is ok to step in

Defo 4-6 wks for Morris unfortunately, find out more Monday when he comes back from USA

erimus74

Any other time I would be fine with Howson coming in just Leeds & Burnley will be, possibly, his 4th & 5th games on the bounce & with his age & the amount of games with him being out for so long could hamper him, though I can see Carrick managing it well knowing the impact on Howson

Bud Wiser

Typical. Morris has been our most consistent performer this season.

I hope Uncle Sam is tipping up the wages for the games he misses.
SAMMY AMEOBI - CAN I HAVE YOUR SHIRT PLEASE

In With the Lurpak

Horrific weather forecast as storm Bert arrives with very strong winds what will howl through that place also rain & snow. The Kassam stadium wont offer much protection, looks a right shit hole  :charles:

Scrappy score draw at best . :orson:

Safe journey to all Boro fans travelling to the game today, it looks awful out there

erimus74

Barlaser to shine, I sing his praises regularly on here, he has something in his game that noone else has at the club & Carrick knows that

An assist & a goal today 👌
