LIFE IS NOT FAIR -  LETS MAKE THE RIVERSIDE LOUD & PROUD ON SATURDAY & LET EVERYONE WATCHING THE EMOTIONAL WISHES THE BORO FANS SHOW FOR THE BRISTOL CITYS MANAGER/FAMILY/FRIENDS & THEIR TRAVELLING FANS THAT WE ALL SHARE THEIR GRIEF UPON THE DREADFUL NEWS REGARDING THE PASSING OF HIS SON X

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the past these, games at Ayresome Park use to almost guarantee a home win, since we moved to the Riverside, not so.
Two seasons running we lost at home to Bristol City & a certain Albert Adomah scored in both games, now he was some player for us, maybe we signed him to avoid another Bristol City defeat
They done the double over us last season too

Well thankfully, another bore fest international break is over & the return of proper football this coming weekend at the Riverside

Our last outing before the boring international break was away to Watford when the Boro "clawed defeat from the jaws of victory", as the clocked ticked onto the 75th minute we were comfortable, if you can with the Boro, leading 1-0 with time still to play, we even had a couple of chances to increase that lead then, in the space of 12 minutes, we were losing 2-1 & that's how the game finished.

Hopefully, something Michael Carrick & Jonathan Woodgate learn from to take forward

With that defeat at Watford Boro dropped 2 places from 7th to 9th on 14 points with Bristol City sitting in 16th place on 11 points with a GD of minus 4

Two games v Bristol City at Ayresome Park stand out for me for different reasons:-

1st game  - 29/9/1973 – Two excited younguns standing in the boysend on this fine Saturday afternoon, me at 13 & our Kev at 12 (my younger brother) waiting to see former Celtic legend & European cup winner Bobby Murdoch, our new signing, run out of the tunnel for his home debut wearing our famous, awesome Boro home strip, he had made his away Boro debut the Tuesday before (incidentally, one European cup winner Nobby Stiles was replaced with another in Bobby) Bobby delighted the Boro faithful that day, a superstar status that grew even more when he scored the opening goal on his home debut (becoming the 86th different Boro player to do this) as we beat, the then second division leaders, Bristol City 2-0 to go joint top of the league, behind City on GD. We overtook them the next game & remained top for the duration of the season

2nd game - 4th November 1978 - Boro had signed Terry Cochrane a month earlier & the 3 games he played in we won 2-0 in all 3 games, the Bristol City game, with our highest home crowd of the season, most likely on the back of TC's display, unfortunately didn't play in the City game, which played out a boring 0-0 game. Mark Proctor wore the No7 shirt that afternoon, no disrespect to Mark who had 2 excellent spells here, but standing in the holgate with our Kev & remember I turned round & said to him, "will it be this bad without TC in the team" which wasn't really the case, just seemed at that moment in time, he was such a lift & a massive miss then

Not a fixture I really look forward to us playing

19th April 1902 2nd Division – Boro 2 Bristol City 0 – Our 1st ever promotion season & our first meeting on Teesside between both teams

Boro v Bristol City fixture will be the 44th fixture on Teesside between the 2 teams with the following record:
Won - 24
Drew - 10
Lost - 9
Goals scored - 71
Goals against - 38

We've done the double over City 3 times

1928/29, 1970/71 & 1994/95

We've scored 2 home hat tricks v Bristol City

13/2/1960 Brian Clough scored his 9th hat trick, the clubs 71st at Ayresome Park, 75th on Teesside & 93rd in total when the Boro beat City 6-3

4/3/1995 - Uwe Fuchs scored his only Boro hat trick, the 93rd & final hat trick at Ayresome Park, 97th on Teesside & 132nd in total when beating City 3-0

Home debut/last appearance v Bristol City

19/4/1902 - Reginald Williamson, who went on to become Boro's record appearance of 602 games between 1902-1923, made his debut after moving from Redcar Crusaders this month
John Brearley made his final appearance before moving to Everton this month
James Tennant made his final appearance before moving to Watford in June - won 2-0

8/1/1972 - John Stone made his final of 2 appearance before moving to York City in July – won 1-0

7/3/1987 - David Hodgson who we had on loan from Norwich City, made his 2nd & final appearance after been sent off at home to Bristol City, returning to Norwich City after loan period expired – won 1-0

6/4/1991 - Colin Walsh, our 1st ever loanee goalscorer, made his final appearance before returning to Charlton Athletic after loan period expired – won 2-1

23/11/1991 – Record signing Andrew Payton made a goalscoring debut after 3 minutes moving from Hull City this month – won 3-1

Home penalties v Bristol City

17/4/1910 - Goalkeeper Reginald Garnet 'Tiny' Wiliamson became the 10th different Boro penalty goalscorer & the only Boro keeper who has scored goals for Boro in a 1st team match, one which was at home to Bristol City converting penalty in a 3-0 win, the club's 13th penalty

15/12/1928 – Billy Pease became the 21st different penalty goalscorer when he scored the clubs 51st at home to Bristol City in a 3-1 win

27/4/1929 – Billy Pease scored the Boro's 56th penalty in a 1-0 win

3/12/1968 – John Hickton became the clubs 43rd different penalty goalscorer when he scored the clubs 155th in a 4-1 win

If the result goes this way Red then questions will be asked of Michael Carrick, we cant continue to struggle against, not lesser ability teams, but teams who not only outfight us but out think us. I always say look at the league table after 10 games, Bristol game is our 10th

Hopefully we do bounce back & convert our chances that we've been creating, while our other not so strikers convert the odd chance that comes our way

GET WELL SOON STEVE G

erimus74

Sorry Lids, I don't buy into they'll be more up for it than us theory due to the sad, emotional circumstances,  emotions can get you so far on the day (I don't mean to come across callouss or cruel) but if a team performs better they should win, I'm going for Boro win, we've stuttered so far this season, played some cracking football, missed a good few gilt edged chances & some game it'll just nit together, lets hope its this weekend

HOPE WELLS AND VYNER NOT PLAYING...ALWAYS SEEM TO SCORE AGAINST US 🙄🙄🙄

Well no idea whose available tomorrow, whose fit, who will come back from the boring international break ok

Maybe Howson, Forss, Conway to be in the squad, which would be good Tommy against his former teammates & wanting to make an impression

Thinking this awful news of the managers poor son will not only affect the City players but Conway too

Will be emotional time tomorrow leading up to kickoff

Yeah it's very sad.

Nobody wants to outlive their kids.

Francks left peg

With the emotion around the occasion and the fact Bristol usually give us a good game I'm going for 2-1 to Bristol!
