A lot in the media recently about MPs getting freebies, isn't that just a perk of the job?
MP's receiving tickets for football or Rugby games isn't a bad thing, being on stage with a DJ is fuck compared to what goes on in the oil & gas or building industries
I've been to concerts, festivals, football, F1, and even weekends away with or as gifts from generous contractors
I'm 100% sure I'm not the only one on here

Did you take millions of pounds from pensioners before your jollies?

Geoff_B

It's anything but perks of the job. They aren't just MPs, they are ministers and therefore the government.

It doesn't matter what goes on in the private sector, they aren't running the country, able to influence policy and the laws of the land.

Also as a civil servant I am not allowed to accept gifts, for obvious reasons, so why on earth should the government be allowed

Agree, I've certainly had the odd perk from work, whether a match ticket with meal or a sporting event night, but im fed up of hearing the tories lied because they breathe baloney then watch Starmer cuddle up & embrace poor old Doris because she can't afford to do this & that, stand up & tell everyone thats its shameful & change is the only way forward, then get into power & kick poor old Doris further down the road

Thats the annoying thing, that angers me, different colour tie but if its fres I'll have it, that will never change

Sorry dutchgash im not having a pop at you.

So does it not being allowed stop it from happening?

Most companies have strict gifts and bribery policies.  Everywhere I have work we had to get approval from the Legal department if the value was over something like $200 a person (giving or receiving).  We had to be seen to be fully transparent and beyond influence particularly when dealing with public/governmental entities.  Even the appearance of backhanders or favoritism based on valuable "gifts" would damage any company's reputation.

The Government controls a shitload of money and must be fully transparent and above the law in everything they do - I am certain that is drilled into MPs etc.  I don't buy any excuse about "forgetting" to declare etc - it's total BS.

Yes I'm currently in Westminster and don't know a single colleague who has even been offered a freebie, never mind took one. You would be sacked for doing so

When the country is being fed how hard a forthcoming budget will be, taking money off pensioners then it is fundamentally wrong.

Labour criticised sleaze from the last regime and set themselves up to be whiter than white.

Taking the country for being prats.

And then they wonder why so many are annoyed and upset.

MP's shouldn't be allowed second jobs,if they have time for one they aren't working hard enough at the first one.And freebies leave you open to allegations of double standards and corruption. :wankers:
