Just been told mine (and blood pressure) are "through the roof" (also said i had a heart issue 4 months ago according to scans(?)).

So have been reading up. They want to stick me on statins but im not overly fond of that idea.

So looked at diet.

"brown rice, wholegrain bread and wholewheat pasta
nuts and seeds
" are mentioned in every article.

Allergic to nuts and i cant eat wheat.

"oily fish, like mackerel and salmon". I eat bucketfuls of the stuff already.

"fruits and vegetables". The same as fishy stuff. By the bucketful.

Takeaways are once in a blue moon. I mostly eat and cook fresh (even trim meat!).

So why am i so fucking ill?....

HELP!!..

Some people have conditions meaning that, even with good diets, they have high cholesterol.  For example familial hypercholesterolemia which is an inherited condition (that is usually treated with statins).

Wishing you good health.

Ken, face facts - you're fucked!

Seriously, blood pressure and you are understandable. You've had stress followed by stress. Losing your closest love of your life,  other close friends, the court case, loss of job, and other personal pressures there is little wonder you have high blood pressure.

It can be managed effectively. Also cholesterol is probably higher than it should be within an age range you are in.

PLEASE take medical advice and even if you have  reluctance to medicines and tablets do give them a go.

Don't let these issues take over your life. Ken I am rooting for you.

As I am sure are all members of this forum.

Whilst what you say is good advice Lids, I can tell you that a healthy diet and exercise never stops anyone getting a heart attack. As men, when we get symptoms, we feel we can shrug it off. Never happens!!
I was lucky. I was with friends for lunch while working in Sweden. I had tingling in both arms and went pale and throwing up. I was convinced a brew back at work would sort me out. An Irish mate said he had seen this before and, luckly, we all went straight to the hospital. Sure enough an ultrasound detected a blocked artery. One sent inserted and a handful of tablets (for the rest of my life) ensured survival.  Seven years ago that.
I know 5 lads in their 50's who never made it in time, probably because they didn't think it serious enough. 3 of them lads were fit as fuck. All passed away.

It can get anyone anytime and it doesn't care about how you look after yourself.  My issue is no one ever told me what symptoms to expect or worry about. And just add, my BP has always been good.

 Take care lads.

My Dad dropped dead with a heart attack at age 42.  He had felt ill going to work and gone to the Dr's clinic and died while there getting an ECG.

He had no particular lifestyle issues (he hardly drank, smoked a couple of cigarettes every day, wasn't overweight, walked the dog every day) except slightly high blood pressure and a tendency to get angry/stressed at the slightest thing.

Can get absolutely anyone. One of the lads I know from the regiment dropped dead on a tab a few years back and josh was fit in the extreme.

I'm glad you made this post Ken. I've been putting off going to the Drs for quite a while now. My BP is through the roof and has been for a while

I can't thank those that have commented with their experiences on this as you have all made my mind up, Drs monday for tablets

I've just checked my Bp and it's 157/102!

In With the Lurpak

Woman our lass works with got taken off her Statins  :diego: , Instead of lowering her cholesterol they ended up giving her something called none alcoholic  Cirrhosis of the liver, basically fucked her liver up big time .

then they decided to put her on something called bempedoic acid / ezetimibe  :diego:

The side effect she's now got and living with is constant coughing fits caused by these pills.
None smoker but lungs down the pan now as well as liver

Once you start taking statins you will ache top to bottom and feel tired .

Its up to you Ken you do what puts you at ease in your mind.

just letting you know they might reduce cholesterol but there's usually a price .

1st off i offer my apologies to Coulbs. Sorry mate should not of bit after all i asked for advice 👍.

Im a "sickly" person (suffered since i was 16. All because of a dirty kebab van in Normanby).
I have always just cracked on. Sometimes at a cost to health.

Im also aware since Carmen passed my head just aint right so i know that impacts my physical health.

But this statin thing does have me thinking.

They want me to go into hospital for "checks" but the last 5 people i know that went into JCUH did not come home. All on statins also.

The non alcohol liver thing (Crocky?) Pricked up my ears. I dont drink. The last alcohol i had was Carmens funeral. Yet my liver shows alcohol!. Not "old" but new "alcohol". Even the quack is a bit perplexed. Im sure she dont believe i dont drink!.

But thanks for the advice. It cannot be easy relaying painful personal stuff but it does help people like me make an informed decision.
👍👍

Sir Digby

Told me my cholesterol was through the roof years ago and wanted to put me on meds. I refused pending a medical review and managed to get it right down myself. Found it difficult to maintain though and it went high again so went on a health kick and got it down again.
I know I've let it slip again, but I can never get an appointment for the docs when I need one so they never really invite me in for health checks anymore.
I've still always kept up the basics though, best of both bread, have wholemeal buns for my box at work, cholesterol lowering drinks on a morning and keep of the pies apart from on a very rare occasion.

LG1660

Managed to get a Drs appointment for today. Got my BP done at reception and was 173/106....Fingers crossed will get sorted today

NIBZ

Mine's high. (depends who you speak to) been told on one hand I'm in slim shape so not to worry, then you get the ones that want to fill you with pills. It's the same with me Mam and her dementia. You get the chemist tellin me not to give me Mam a couple of slurps to take to bed with her paper as it might kill her, then you've got her doctor tellin me to carry on(shes always done it. Two slurps and a paper). And they wonder why people are Googling symptoms...
