Lids reminded me the minutes silence this Saturday for Sol Bamba

What can you say about this man that hasn't been posted all over the football worlds social media since his awful passing

At the beginning of August 2021 Sol approached Neil Warnock asking if he could come to the club to gain fitness following his release from Cardiff & his life threatening illness battle with cancer, he ended his time at the Boro with fans loving the contribution he gave to our club, a leader, a gentleman

11th January 2021 Sol was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin lymphoma
8th May 2021 Sol played his final match for Cardiff City at home to Rotherham
20th May 2021 Sol announced he was cancer free

11th August Sol made his Boro debut in a 3-0 away defeat at Blackpool when he became our 61st league cup debutant, It showed the caliber of the man which marked his first minutes playing since recovering from cancer in May
14th August - 3 days after the Blackpool cup game Sol made his league debut in a 2-1 home win over Bristol City when manager Neil Warnock brought on Sol in the 95th minute. He had previously made a scoring debut for Cardiff against Bristol City back in 2016
He joined Neil Warnock at the Boro initially to keep fit, earned himself a contract & went onto play a pivotal role for the club that season, a gentle giant, played the game with a big, massive smile, a man mountain, a cult hero, winning the MOTM in a few games, amazing considering what he had been through that year, his level of fitness at that level was unbelievable
Sol went on to play 29 games that season, scoring his one & only Boro goal & winning a winning goal at that when he converted a spot kick in an FAC 4th round penalty shootout at Old Trafford
January 2022 - With the score at 4-4 Sol, who was brought on from the bench with minutes remaining of Boro's tie hadn't even had a kick until clutching the ball, calmly walked up to the penalty spot & with a smile & wink towards the referee he put the ball on the spot & cooly placed the ball in the corner of the net giving the Man Utd keeper no chance & the Boro went through to the next round
At the end of the season he retired from football, taking up a position at Cardiff in 2023
Boro were his 9th & final league club he played for

The football world will be sad day leading up to kick off all around the grounds as clubs & fans, pay tribute to this lovely, lovely man

RIP Sol x

Following all the emotion of the minutes applause for Sol a football match will be played & hopefully, we give a performance worthy of his name

Real football returns after the first of 3 boring, boring international breaks this year & with it, normal kickoff time too, as we welcome Preston North End to the Riverside for a championship fixture

Slowly improving Boro, better start than last season, are just outside the playoff pack on GD in 7th place, face 4th bottom Preston, with one win & 3 defeats with a minus 6 GD

Hopefully the players on international duty return ok from their international matches & along with loanees George Edmundson & Ben Doak, Michael Carrick may have VDB, McGree available for selection too

The 1st fixture between both clubs was a 1892 FAC 2nd cup tie at Linthorpe road with Preston running out 2-1 winners

This will be the 53rd match on Teesside between both teams with the following record

Won - 30
Drew - 11
Lost - 11
Goals for - 96
Goals against - 50

Remember a night match v Preston about 3, 4 years back, we were comfortably beating Preston one nil, should have been 3, 4 goals up when out of the blue an Ayala tackle just outside our box that the ref not only gave Preston a free kick but sent Ayala off, Preston then equalised & later scored a winner

Ayals sending off was later rescinded but the damage was done

I think this is the game when it really starts to come together

4-0 Boro

Bit of a mid-table battle this one and will be a dreary affair in my opinion

IF George Edmundson makes his debut today, which I think he will, with Ayling moving across & unlucky Dijksteel dropping out, he will become our registered No1023 debutant, 116th loaned signing - 83rd at the Riverside & IIRC, our 1st loanee from Ipswich Town

They've lost 3 out of 4 PNE. Let's hope Boro don't dish out gifts today. 1-0 to us.

PLEASE move the ball faster, stretch them wing to wing. This is how we can get a result against block defensive targets.

Erimus, brilliant work as usual.
