An unbelievable run ended 44 years ago today, which, IMO, will never be beaten for the mighty Boro, or any other football team

6th September 1980 - Amazingly, after 305 consecutive appearances David Armstrong missed a Boro game at home to Nottm Forest. A 1st team fixture, league, cups, his name was always named on the teamsheet

I can see the club secretary actually writing Armstrongs name on the teamsheet for the Forest game then having to quickly find some tippex, he'll have automatically wrote his name even though he wasn't playing

3rd April 1972 - David Armstrong made his debut in a 3-1 away defeat at Blackpool, manager Stan Anderson kept him in the team for the remainder of the season, give DA a few games the following season

Stan Anderson then rested Dave Armstrong from the 1st team for 11 games, when he made only one sub appearance then on the 24th March 1973 Stan Anderson gave Dave the No8 shirt & his consecutive run in the 1st team had started

Quite remarkable when you take in to account he played in 99% of pre season friendlies too

When he took the field for his debut away to Blackpool he was the 489th registered Boro to start a 1st team game

Exactly 12 months after his run started, he scored the only goal of the game against Oxford to secure Boro's promotion to the top flight for the first time for 20 years

RIP Dave Armstrong x
