In With the Lurpak

Quote from: erimus74 on August 22, 2024, 10:40:51 PMWe still weren't sure if we would have a football club to follow

But a rebirth of the club & a truly remarkable couple of seasons were to follow

I was talking to a lad at work about this era Erimus, He is a pools fan. I can't recall the Ex Boro player he mentioned but basically he said after the pools helped out the Boro with somewhere to play there was an Ex Boro player associated with the Pools at the time , The Pools had wanted to organise a testimonial for him obviously against the Boro . Apparently Gibson turned them and the player down saying he was not in charge of the Boro when this Ex Boro player played for Boro . Poor form if true. Do you know anything about it Erimus.

Never heard about that Lurpak, back then I use to go drinking on Friday nights with the office staff from the ticket office, never heard anything mentioned, not saying it didn't happen but find it hard to believe given what Pools done for us

I've never bought into all this 'Hartlepool saved us' shite. The Codheads hired their ground out to us that day, aswell as jacking-up the advertised entrance charge (can't remember what that was) to those of use who actually attended.
At worst, the game would've gone ahead behind closed doors - probably at Clareville stadium.
Sure, the deal enabled those of us still interested in the club to attend, but thats all.

We did something similar to aid a pitch-problemed Darlington around 15 years ago. It happens.

The only reason it wasn't at Darlo was the filth said they couldn't support it due to also policing the annual show in South Park.

Given Darlo/Boro history it would probably have been carnage in town!

Remember Crocks story vaguely and that it came some years later fuelled by the 'ungrateful bastards owe us for the ground saving them in '86' story.

Probably in the week before Eindhoven or summat!

 :ray:

Blott

That first Darlo game in the cup, I don't think the cricket field was designed for the mayhem.

Kippers

My wife said to me the other day 'you think more about Boro than me'

What a thing to say after we've Been married for 36 seasons.

I know who that is.

* and Gibbo was in charge when he played for Boro

In With the Lurpak

I said that today to the lad who reminded me his name. But he's adamant Gibbo refused to send a team to help the lad out in a testimonial
