We still weren't sure if we would have a football club to follow

But a rebirth of the club & a truly remarkable couple of seasons were to follow

Ayton Mews

I'm guessing you were around 12 years old at the time Erimus? What a time to really start supporting the Boro!

Haha, I'd been married one week leading up to this game v Port Vale, fortunately we couldn't afford a honeymoon or I would have missed the most important game in our history

Still remember the news that night as the suits had the chain and lock put on the gates.

No Ayton, born in 1960. 74 is reference to my favourite season supporting the mighty Boro (1974)

Blott

I was and am Boro daft. But a lot of the turmoil went way above my head. It never occurred to me it would ever go bust.

I was on holiday for the Port Vake game so the season went on its merry way.

Then Robson and McLaren times, heaven on earth for me.

erimus74

Fingers & toes crossed, if I'm here to make our ruby wedding, 40 years, a week later the mighty Boro will be doing likewise, double celebration

Why 1974?
Surely there's been a few better since then, the beginning of the Robbo era were fantastic times for the club, and oh for those bloody 3 points, where would we be now?

Jesus, whoever is doing the nc500 with you must have the patience of mother Theresa.

I'm with erimus.
20 yrs in the wilderness.
Stan was so close to getting us up and we enjoyed some good cup matches.
But then in comes Big Jack and we blow the opposition - and the 2nd Division - apart. We even took Carlisle up with us for a laugh.
The big boys in the 1st Division were watching us with terror, knowing what was coming their way the following season. Apart from Man Utd who were too busy getting relegated. Deliberately, to avoid us. Probably.
