Quote from: Ayton Mews on August 12, 2024, 09:36:34 PMI was looking at buying a van for £8-10k then converting it into a campervan myself with solars etc for another £5k or whatever.

Like a lot of these things though, i think it's more the project I was interested in rather than the actual outcome.

It's like spending months building a treehouse as a kid, you finish it and then it's like "well what now?" 😅

Not sure I would fancy doing the NC500 in a treehouse,
But if you did buy a van for 10k then spend 5k doing it up, depending on your build you would get 25k for it

It would always be a van converted into a camper and therefore shite

No way would you get £25 for it

If done correctly they will easy make 25k,
Electrics with hook up and 12v system,
X2 leisure batteries with chargers from engine and solar,
Solar panels,
Seen loads of van conversions over the last couple of years and some look better than the ones the big name camper van companies are knocking out, and these are nearly 100k for a fuckin camper van, check out the Fiat Adria twin series, mad.

He said he was going to spend £5K on it FFS

Well how much do you think electrics, couple of solar panell a large lithium battery and an inverter costs?? You'd have change from £2.5k if you shop around.

hot water combi heater £500. Fridge the same. Diesel heater £200.

Then it's just timber / insulation / building materials.

Could even put a shower in larger vans for another £500 or so.

More than 5K for a proper job....properly finished and not just plywood screwed to the panels

Ayton Mews

Yeah 5k will be tight, but materials only it's absolutely doable, I looked into full electric system and that was about 2.5k alone.

Left sango sands last night intending to follow advice to go to Cape Wrath, only missed the fuckin turning, shit loads of vehicles behind and nowhere to turn around, Bastards.
Currently in clachtoll beach campsite, blowing a fuckin hooly again, heading to Ullapool in morning and might go across to Skye.

Advice:

Find the M74
Merge onto M6
Keep going South until you see signs for North Devon
Stop and sunbathe

You can't drive to Cape Wrath anyway.
You need the ferry from Durness, then the minibus to the Cape.

Ayton Mews

Yeah yer fuckin useless cunt

Hound

Well, left the pissing wet Ben Nevis this am, went to Oban (was sunny here for an hour) to buy some fuckin crab and prawns to make something posh for the what's for tea thread, before heading through glencoe, seen fuck all for mist, arrived at Loch Lomond campsite where the site warden is like fuckin smalltown, " 5mph limit on site, no noise after 10pm, make sure you are parked correctly on your pitch" fuck off ya little ginger cunt, anyway, the rains stopped.
Any recommendations for a site between here and Boro?

And I bet your response was "yes sir, I'll be very well behaved sir" ... then thought "I'm gonna give it the big 'un on RR about this!"

The site warden is a woman.
Why would I call her sir?

Ayton Mews

I've never imagined Smalltown as a woman before. Each to their own though
