100% this.

You can forget all the nice ideas of sitting outside having a relaxing drink by your campervan.

Unless you want to look like the elephant man

Go see the Harry Potter bridge!!!!! Glenfinnan Viaduct, 1 hr 40 from Loch Ness.

You'll be sound with mozzy nets on just get some antihistamines in case anyone has a reaction to the bites.

Have a look on TikTok there'll be loads of compilation videos like "hidden gems on NC500" etc etc.

Also download AllTrails so if you're planning on walking anywhere you'll be able to see the type of terrain, how difficult the walk is, etc.

Get yourself a fishing rod bought as well and do some spinning off the beaches

Clem Fandango

Go to Cornwall.

Well we are nearly 7 hours drive from Teesside now, but if the weather and midges start pissing me off I don't mind heading to Cornwall instead.

For the Harry Potter bridge I reckon you'd be better getting the steam train from Mallaig to Fort William and back. And actually crossing it. Or Fort William to Mallaig and back.

Too many in Cornwall - try North Devon instead

North Mort Farm is superb

teamboro

North Devon is Fantastic as Ural said Cornwall is picturesque but can be busy especially this time of the year Torquay is vastly overrated what a shit hole of a place made Redcar look decent
TEESSIDER and Proud  of the area unlike some and I'm not a Racist

I've heard there is a decent hotel in Torquay though. Called 'Flowery Twats' or 'Farty Towels' or something.

borope

Ive heard theres a Facebook page with pubs that let you park up over night for free as long as you spend a few quid in there.

Just done the NC500 in July over a week and a day. Stayed in CCMH sites mostly. Drove to Inverness and stayed at Dornock, Wick, Durness, Kyle of Tongue, Kinlockchew then on to Fort William ( Bunree) before travelling to Ayr for a couple of nights.
Highlights were John o groats, Smoo cave, Thurso,
Enjoy your trip but be careful on those Western roads, They will test your driving ability and suspension.

I was looking at buying a van for £8-10k then converting it into a campervan myself with solars etc for another £5k or whatever.

Like a lot of these things though, i think it's more the project I was interested in rather than the actual outcome.

It's like spending months building a treehouse as a kid, you finish it and then it's like "well what now?" 😅

Not sure I would fancy doing the NC500 in a treehouse,
But if you did buy a van for 10k then spend 5k doing it up, depending on your build you would get 25k for it

It would always be a van converted into a camper and therefore shite

No way would you get £25 for it
