After beating Sunderland in the opening qualifying Anglo Scottish Cup fixture 3-2 Boro followed that up with an emphatic 4-1 home win over Carlisle United at Ayresome Park with goals from Ian Bailey, John Hickton penalty & a brace from Alan Willey
