Thanks Norman. I have zero knowledge of premium bonds its looking like they are some ISA saving thing . I thought it was just a raffle where you put some money on some tickets and that was it . you can take out what you put in with no worries about it going down in value. is that the case or not ?

It is a raffle crocky.

The prize pool is basically the Bank of England base rate plus 1% of all the savings currently held.

So you're basically just "gambling" with the interest you would get each month if you put it in a normal savings account.

It's a bit of interest at the start of each month though. Pardon the pun.

Over the course of the year I probably get back what I would have got in a normal saver account.

Some months nowt, some months a couple of £50s or £25s.

You just invest as much as you want up to 50k. Withdraw all or some whenever you want. The more you put in the more chance of winning apparently but saying that you could have a tenners worth and win the million just like the lotto

Yes it's a free raffle, whatever you put in you take out at any time and it's protected so the govt pays you back , I've maxed out and won four or five grand in drips and drabs over the last few years.they also do a decent isa rate, I got a 5% one although it's dropped to 4.2 now.

I have two thousand in there and have never won out for years. My father as the maximum and every other month he delights in telling me that Ernie's called. He regularly gets a couple of cheques for £75 plus.

Had my since I was a youngster even though the money at the time was a lot to pay for them they are still the same value today only ever one one prize won't cash them in as sentimental value is priceless bought by my late grandmother only worth £6 but to me they are priceless as £6 in the sixties was a lot of money
