2/3 of people that cast a vote did not vote for Labour.

Wow!

BoroRedKen

Now that is about my limit of understanding figures etc re politics.

So what would the "outcome" under PR have looked like?...

Clem Fandango

And a 60% turnout.

Meaning abut 20% of the electorate voted for them.

 :unbelievable:

It's fairly similar if you look at brexit and the last few elections however so it isn't really a change.

PR isn't the answer, all the countries that use it have regularly collapsing governments so no stability. Single transferable vote is the model we should aim for. PR means you wouldn't even have a local MP and not sure how I feel about that?

How that works; usually with more representatives

How it's counted
To get elected, a candidate needs a set amount of votes, known as the quota. The people counting the votes work out the quota based on the number of vacancies and the number of votes cast.

Each voter has one vote. Once the counting has finished, any candidate who has more number ones than the quota is elected. But, rather than ignore extra votes a candidate received after the amount they need to win, these votes move to each voter's second favourite candidate.

If no one reaches the quota, then the people counting the vote remove the least popular candidate. People who voted for them have their votes moved to their second favourite candidate. This process continues until every vacancy is filled.

fukyu

That's why some call for proportionate representation.

RiversideRifle

I didn't vote. It's all a load of shite

Labour got  35% of the vote
Tory's got 21%
The most interesting fact is reform got 15% of the vote and won four seats, the libs got 12% of the vote and won 71 seats, that's bizarre.

Is it that bizarre? Or is it just the way it's always worked? There are no prizes for second place in each constituency, you either win or you don't.

Hilary Clinton got more votes than Donald trump. Just the way the system works, every constituency is up for winning or losing and you need to win to get a seat.

Don't start crying now the results are in. This isn't Brexit 😅

Clem Fandango

Crying?  Nah... it was a forgone conclusion.  The Tories had fucked up enough.

The turnout shows people are just fed up with politicians of all sides.  And Labour winning was more a vote against the Tories than for Labour.

It will bee a fun ride - it's very different trying to run something vs sniping from the sidelines.

PS: note that the magic money tree is not something that can be used in the real world.

I'm British - and can vote and will be retiring at home.  Assuming Labour don't fuck the country up even more.  That's what it has to do with me.

That's a lot of seats for so small a vote percentage.

The Nordic countries seem to their house in order when it comes to politics.. Denmark, Norway, and Sweden, Finland and Iceland.. they just seem better at it than us and the yanks.

Whatever they are doing.. let's have a bit of that!
