It's happened a couple of times to me when I typed a message and it didn't appear, doubt a post has been removed, unless there was swearing in it.

Quote from: Norman_Conquest on June 25, 2024, 10:59:26 PMI was a welder until I was 39 and had an accident on my lower spine.  I was told I couldn't return to that job and went back to college/University and also volunteered as a Youth Worker.  I studied to become a counsellor and worked for the Connexions Mentoring Service before moving to work with Connexions Positive Activities for Young People.

I was going in and out of schools in East Cleveland and was asked to run a behaviour unit.  I was very successful in this role and the unit was copied by many other schools.

An academy took over the running of the school and changed the boundaries.  The academy wanted to get behaviour students out of the school because it impacted on the schools exam results and this didn't sit right with me.

I decided to take early retirement and now work much harder for less money for the wife.

That is fantastic Norman

I have been away from posting on this board for 24 hours for whatever reason & have read & replied to Kens post & likewise with you Norman

What I read on your post is nothing short of been brilliant, so selfless & a great way of wanting to help others in a less fortunate predicament, truly remarkable
I would have to loved to have been in that framed mind to have wanted to do something like that but sadly I wasnt

It takes a special kind of person to do what you did

So glad you post on here Norman, well done 👌

Thanks for the kind words erimus.

The one thing I missed off was volunteering for the 'For Get Me Not' children's bereavement programme which is part of Teesside Hospice.  I worked for these for a little over a year whilst training as a counsellor and delivered bereavement group work to young people aged from seven years to sixteen years of age.

I got so much out of volunteering for this service and have been able to use the skills I learnt with my own loved ones and the students I worked with in the school.

It always seems strange to say that I enjoyed working with young people struggling with bereavement but watching them first come in struggling and then leaving at the end of the six weeks with the skills to cope was so rewarding, it is very hard to explain.

You certainly are a special person Norman

I say things as I see them, give praise to people who I think deserve it, theres too many posts on the internet were there is person assassination to read what Norman & Ken should be praised to the rafters

I still remember when me & ST were having a Brexit debate OTR & afrer a while he said to me, its a shame people like me exsist, Norman was the ONLY poster to call him out & ST reply was, well im sick of people like him

Shows what a caring man you are

No worries Artie.
If i/we remove a post on purpose then we will always say why.
We communicate with fellow members.
The lads could be at work, on holiday or just chilling out in retirement but they find the time to communicate when acting as mods/admin.....

Thanks E-Man.

I kind of wish Norman had been around a while ago because i could of learnt a lot from him as "an old hand" at that kind of work. Whether he would of liked it or not i would of used NC as a kind of "mentor".

I am going to miss "my work" so so much. I never did it for praise. I did it to help people. I was, i felt at the time, fortunate with my life, so i always tried to "pay it forward".
But because i cant do it anymore i know there are people still out there that are pushing and pulling people towards a safer better life. We need, as a country, not to forget these people in the background just getting on trying to make a difference to someone.

I have been the massively underpaid and highly stressed owner / Managing Director of a business for twenty years.
Before that I was a much better paid and much less stressed employee of the same business.

Just been talking to my wife about my jobs in my youth
Paper rounds, spud bashing & a couple of us around west lane/whinney banks for a couple of weekends as a window cleaner, only one reason for earning extra money back then, following the Boro, our dad paid us into Ayresome Park for home games, but I wanted to buy Boro badges etc & go to the odd away game, Beggs/Beeline so the jobs were important for that
She replied, well nothings changed then 😂
