Theres good & bad in every town/city in the country, I'd never had any visions of wanting to move away from the area, even in the early 80's when my prospects weren't ideal I loved living in the Boro, family/socialising/football, it was everything to me & now I just love walking around the avenue of trees, acklam hall

Count my lucky stars, for me, its as good as any part of the country

Great memories from that area. Acklam high was my old school left in 74. Used to go to the pond with a jar of worms and a length of cotton and fish for sticklebacks. The more daring among us used to remember de bikes on the pond when it froze over during winter. The old manor house that is now the Tomahawk wasn't used that much for classrooms. I remember having history classes in there with a teacher that looked around 80 years old. Can't remember his name. The headmaster Mr Boddys office was in there but we all tried to avoid there. Most of the teaching was done in the newer school building to the right of the manor house. The avenue of trees was often used for cross country running between 69-71 when at Boynton school and is a fantastic spot to stroll round now. Happy days. Different world then.

Yep us Catholics had to do the cross country run, across the top of the avenue of trees, right round sandy flatts .

Aye same route for us. Absolutely hated it. Didn't help that the PE teacher was brutal and it you finished last you got the slipper across a freezing cold arse. The race for the line by the tail Ender's was more exciting than the front runners. Into freezing showers and the last one to get dressed also suffered the slipper. Was murder trying to get dressed when still soaking wet. Haha.
