Love this photo, up there as one of my favs from my collection

7th January 1984

Mick Baxter turns away arms raised, fists clinched in delight after scoring our 3rd & winning goal in our historic 3-2 FAC 3rd round win over Arsenal at Ayresome Park, his thunderous header from a corner at the famous holgate end

Picture shows David Currie, Mogga No3, Mick Baxter & Paul Sugrue No10

Then giant killers Bournemouth.
Then bloody John Chiedoze.

Strange season that. Big Mal did well but we fluctuated between good undefeated runs and runs of defeats.

He got rid of Platt but got Pears on loan. A match programme had an appeal for fans to raise the money to buy Pears.

Cochrane was fined and sold for fannying about in a reserve match.

I reckon Mal was taking us in the right direction but eventually left over the sale of Darren Wood, stating the club would be better dieing a quick death than a slow lingering one.

Eventually the club issued a letter instead of a programme for one match in March. Announcing the appointment of Big Jack, detailing the club's perilous financial position and asking for support.
Crowds of 5,000 just weren't enough.

Memories.

Clem Fandango

That triggered a memory - I was at that game.   :bigjack

Bring back the yoke!!! A shirt design that has featured on our shirts more than the chest band.

Also it will allow for the stupid sponsor which would wreck a band.

Great game. Sugrue had his best game in Boro shirt. Good team then that way under performed. should have been challenging at the top.
