Stan Anderson, born 27th February 1933

When he made his Boro debut on the 20th November 1965 making a scoring debut at home to Cardiff City in a 4-3 defeat he not only became our first ever player coach (back then the name coach wasn't manager, Raich Carter was our manager) & the first player to captain all 3 north east clubs.

He became Boro's manager in April 1966 through to January manager 1973

Stan was our manager when I started going to Ayresome Park, sadly my dad couldn't remember my 1st league game, Orient or Birmingham, he told me back end of 1971
Our dad took me & my younger brother to our 1st Boro game & since that day me & my younger brother were hooked, 53 years later the Boro are still a big part of my life

Stan made some terrific signings including my favourite Boro player of all time, Mr Middlesbrough, John Hickton & the best player, IMHO, to play for the Boro & his final signing, Graeme Souness

He signed a number of quality players for the Boro who went on to make a massive impact to one of the best Boro teams ever.
Along with the signing Stuey Boam, Alan Foggon, John Craggs & the introduction of Jim Platt, David Armstrong, David Mills & the late, great Willie Maddren, Peter Brine, via the youth set up, he was putting together a very good young, exciting team.
Sadly he resigned in January 1973 after a few not so good results, he thought he had taken the club as far as he could

The biggest compliment to Stan is the following season, 1973-74, big Jack who took over & with the signing of one player in Bobby Murdoch, stormed the league, winning the division with 15 points spare

The 1st game I do remember attending, along with my brother was an FAC 3rd round replay, January 1972 against 1st division giants Man City, Boro winning 1-0, John Hickton scoring with an attendance of 40,000

RIP Stan xx

Always remember Stan for the promotion season from the old third division. And of course the game against Oxford that sealed our promotion.

Stan had a lot of power back in the day. I recall when Big John was being courted. Stan's response to the board? If Hickton goes, I go. Needless to say the board heeded his words.

Not the most charismatic character but was very effective and left a team just one or two pieces away from promotion to the old First Division.

Thanks for the memories, Stan.

Erimus, thanks. Not being up my own arse I hope the board can return to what it was - and not what one individual wants it to be...........

And I would send some personal emails but can't work out how the fuck to create or respond to internal messages! My age I guess!!!!

If you mean PM's Nosmo, at the very top of the page is a tab called 'My Messages".

Click it then select Inbox.

The rest should be fairly straight forward.

Johnny, thanks. No problem receiving its sending! Say gor example I want to send Ken a message when I put Nekdar as the recipient it claims it doesn't recognise him! I am a dinosaur though........

Easiest way is to click on Kens name and in his profile you will see an option to 'Send PM'.

Johnny, tried this also! When I put His name in underneath his name appears with a red cross next to his name!

That's how it should be Nosmo. The red cross is if you want to remove his name after putting it in.

If you use the link I gave you then select 'Send PM", his name will automatically be added.
All you need to do then is type in the title and message and hit send.
