Looks like it's true. Terrible news! Don't think I've ever been sad to see a coach leave before 🤣

Steve Round is a great shout!

Wonder what Mike Phelan and Rene Meulensteen are up to these days?

A loss for sure - would have been worse if it was Carrick leaving. Be happy with someone like Phelan - age being the one consideration. In as much is he aware of modern day team setups and playing style ?

That's a point.. Danks seemed to fit the Carrick/Woodgate dynamic.. a canny few signings seem to come our way through his connections too.

Steve Round would be my choice. a bit more experience. very much part of the boro story/dna etc.. a few links to arsenal regarding players would go a miss either.

Steve Round has left Middlesbrough by "mutual consent" after Gareth Southgate yesterday revealed he had experienced "differences in ideas and philosophies" with his first-team coach.

Colin Cooper, who played alongside Southgate at the club, has been promoted from his position as reserve-team coach to fill the vacancy. Boro's manager has never had an entirely comfortable relationship with Round, who serves as one of Steve McClaren's national support staff and was assistant manager during the England manager's time in charge at the Riverside.

Although Round, 36, had recently been awarded a new four-year contract and was much admired by Steve Gibson, Boro's chairman, one of Southgate's first acts was to demote him from assistant manager to coach. Since then it is understood Round, who departs with an apparently generous pay off, had resisted Southgate's plans to make Boro tactically less cautious and more attacking. Matters were further complicated because Round had hoped to succeed McClaren during the summer.

No way will this be a new thing thing that's just cropped up. Just looking at the few names we've been linked with recently.. there does seem to be a bit of a Scottish vibe going down.

Karamoko Dembele was on loan at Blackpool, much like Morgan Rogers.. but he also started as a Celtic Youth Academy player.. as with Harry Souttar who we have been linked with before. Ethan Erhahon was St Mirren Youth who we sold Toyosi Olusanya to and loaned Zack Hemming to.. so we might have a link with them in some way.

Adama Sidibeh was due to have a trial with a championship club when covid hit and scuppered the plans.. he has the same agent as Emiliano Sala who Warnock tried to bring in at Cardiff. Before he was at St Johnstone he has signed for Blackpool.. so another link there..

Celtic? Blackpool? We've been linked with a fair few republic of Ireland players too.

Bit like 'Look through the Keyhole' or 'the masked singer' this..

I'm going for Darren O'Dea the Celtic B head coach

No official approach has been made.. could Danksy turn Bayern down for Boro?
