AM 10 Morgan Rogers - a huge miss for us, but hopefully alleviates the need for us to sell this summer
ST 13 Matthew Hoppe - looked great on paper.. still hasn't found his feet, perhaps a loan away
RB 15 Anfernee Dijksteel - doesn't seems as if his face gits and he needs game time.. offski?
CB 17 Paddy McNair - destined for SPL greatness with Rangers
LB 22 Hayden Coulson - after a great start never really found his feet.. SPL awaits?
MF 28 Lewis O'Brien - big ticket player, big wages and had a big injury
LW 29 Sam Greenwood - another one on big wages, more so if Leeds go up.. best of luck to the lad

So.. SEVEN players there that we could be looking to replace. I'm assuming Luke Ayling covers for Tommy Smith and the deal is pretty much done by all accounts.

a right back and a midfielder being priorities, Luke Ayling being the right back and one would assume that Lewis O'Brien was the midfielder to replace as a priority.. although we were without Morgan Rogers for the 2nd half of the season and we're not taking up the option to sign Sam Greenwood.. so it might be an attaching midfielder we are looking to bring in.

I did hear a whisper that Darragh Lenihan had been working with the recruitment team whilst crooked.. how much of that is true and to what extent I am not sure. Finn Azaz popped up in a boro shirt not long after so maybe there is something in that as young republic of Ireland players were mentioned. Alex Gilbert flew under the radar for the most part of the season but then did pop up to show some class at the back end.. promising. AND another YOUNG REPUBLIC OF IRELAND player. Last summer we were pipped to the post by Leicester City in our pursuit of Tom Cannon and we ended up sticking with Josh Coburn (who as it happens as a result of injury was more effective for us than Tom Cannon was for Leicester) yes, another young Republic of Ireland player.. we missed out on 18yo right back Sam Curtis in January to a then premier league Sheffield United.

Well.. that's enough for me. We're going all in with the young Irish lads!

10 Armstrong Oko-Flex - FC Zürich - Arsenal, Celtic, West Ham, Swansea.. 22yo hasn't really kicked on
13 Tom Cannon - Leicester City - looked like a decent prospect, 3 goal contributions from 13.. meh
15 Sam Curtis - Sheffield United - defo one for the future, wont het his game with Wilder imo
17 Eiran Cashin - Derby - well never get anything from Derby, newly promoted too
22 Anselmo García MacNulty - PEC Zwolle - big tall left sided centre back/left back.. nah
28 Andrew Moran - Brighton - did alright on loan at Blackburn.. attacking midfielder.. taps chin
29 Sinclair Armstrong - QPR - hey, I like him.. maybe more of a Warnock type player tho

out of that lot.. I'd probably only realistically go for Andrew Moran from Brighton and I'd have him as our number 10..

as for Tom Cannon.. I'd prefer Jay Stansfield from Fulham who was on loan at Birmingham last season. 12 goals for a struggling side.. but also 43 appearances FANCY THAT!

missing out on Sam Curtis to Sheffield United.. well how about we beat Wolves and Palace to the signature of Ben Johnson from West Ham.. I really rate this lad 24yo and it's almost silly to even mention him.. but if we can we should imo

if we're talking defensive prospects with Eiran Cashin then Ronnie Edwards has to enter the conversation. he can't stay in league one forever and at 21yo I think he might be a possibility for a long term defensive partner with RVDB might take a decent wedge to prize him away.. but we've not put our hands in our pockets yet. Jonathan Woodgate will be the man to speak to on this one. £4m was mooted last year.. a year left on his contract and he looks like he's got a good stare on him. Perfect Paddy replacement!

Louie Sibley would be a bit of a mad one out of contract at Derby.. has been up and down despite showing some amazing early promise. more attacking that defensive.. but pretty flexible on the left.. if we're releasing Hayden Coulson I think he could fit that space quite well.

Josh Brownhill isn't out of contract in the summer, Max Bird hasn't even played from Bristol City yet AND he's injured..  I think we could do with a bit of investment I hear we've been poking around Switzerland and it certainly wasn't for Armstrong Oko-Flex. Time to revitalise and old rumour with Ardon Jashari! oww looks like he's joining Club Brugge 1st July for €6M still.. we haven't visited uncle Emery for a while.. how about we see how £6m looks for Tim Iroegbunam still only 20yo

If we are pushing the boat out then we need to finish off with a wonderkid from the premier league, from Arsenal.. can play on the right or the left.. out of contract 18yo.. ticks all the boxes for a full and comprehensive window.. lets do it. Amario Cozier-Duberry

AM 10 Andrew Moran - Brighton - Loan
ST 13 Jay Stansfield - Fulham - Loan
RB 15 Ben Johnson- West Ham - Free Agent
CB 17 Ronnie Edwards - Peterborough - £4m?
LB  22 Louie Sibley - Derby - Free Agent
MF 28 Tim Iroegbunam - Aston Villa - £6m?
RW 29 Amario Cozier-Duberry - Arsenal - Free Agent

It's not ITK, it's not funny and it's not clever.. it is what is.. UTB!

John Trebor

Oh jeezus.....
You may as well be making names up for all the sense I made of that.
But in any case...Ayling as a midfielder? I hope that was a typo and not a crazy Newy idea.
Top marks for effort and intensity though 👍

I've seen boro do some interesting stuff with their recruitment which I think is pretty clever. One in one out was pretty much straight forward. Improving on what was going out was more difficult to achieve and then to pay less than we were paying.. even more so. More recently we have seen two players leave place of one.. the idea I think that an academy player should be progressing within the ranks to take up another spot. We haven't been afraid of supplementing our squad with young lower league players from south east London or with top tier academy players that are not going to have a clear route of progression to the first team of a top premier league team. (see Morgan Rogers)

With those broad brush strokes I'm going to have a guess of some cute moves we could do this summer that might not seem particularly impressive on face value but may be hugely beneficial to us in the near future.

In summary.. players we bring in to replace fringe first team players.. loaned in first team players may in actual fact be replacing academy players that are not at the level of progression that we would hope.

We already have a transfer thread like.

Seven 'Fringe Spots' in the squad with bits of movement in the squad made from sales, released players and loans out.

AM 10 Morgan Rogers - Fenton John 20yo & Matt Crooks 30yo
ST 13 Matthew Hoppe - Daniel Nkrumah 20yo & Calum Kavanagh 20yo
RB 15 Anfernee Dijksteel - Frankie Whelan 20yo & George Grant 18yo
CB 17 Paddy McNair - Ben Beals 20yo & JD Costello 19yo
LB 22 Hayden Coulson - Bryant Bilongo 22yo & Sam Collins 20yo
MF 28 Lewis O'Brien - Amazing Kiasungua 18yo & Jack Stott 20yo
LW 29 Sam Greenwood - Jeremy Sivi 21yo & Joe Gibson 22yo

Dropping a £10m on imagined transfer fees, plus high earning free agents as well as a few expensive loans from premier league clubs.. seems a bit OTT

We could take that imaginery money and re invest it where it's most likely to do us well.. by offering clear routes of progression  for high end academy players out of contract this summer..

10  RW Omari Forson 19yo - Man Utd - left footed, versatile intelligent attacker
13  CD Dimitrios Keramitsis 19yo - Roma - a definite threat in set pieces they ying to VDB's yang?
15  MF Jacob Wright 18yo - Man City - Strong at breaking up play and intelligent in his distribution
17  DM Mahamadou Susoho 19yo - Man City - defensive maestro with a right foot that orchestrates the game
22  RB Reuell Walters 19yo - Arsenal - offered a new deal at Arsenal but has turned it down
28  CD Max Alleyne 18yo - Man City - a two footed Rolls Royce of a defender
29  RW Amario Cozier-Duberry 18yo - Arsenal - stacked on the right.. unless Forss plays up top?

New for old, wholesale changes for the fringe of the squad. a perceived lack of investment? three defenders, two right wingers and two defensive midfielders? and no recognised striker? oh, no experience either.. you can't win anything with kids.. unproven tripe. horse shit. here we go again.

Tommy Smith still out, Darragh Lenihan still not back, a heavy reliance on Jonny Howson and a noticeable change when we are without Hayden Hackney. We've got some interesting options up front and a fair bit of flexibility. Supersizing our academy talent and bringing in fast technical quality surely cannot be a bad thing.

Oh, I'd like to add in the summer long pursuit of Jay Stansfield only for us to be 'pipped at the post' at the last minute by.. lets say Sheffield United

Its a life ambition of mine to read a Transfers thread (anywhere) where the originator ISN'T trying to move Arfernee Dijksteel on.

So here's the bad news: He's under contract here for another year. The calibre of club he would attract couldn't in anywhere near pay the wages we're filling his wallet with. He's going NOWHERE!

Matthew Hoppe has two years left.. he's still young but his loans to  Hibs and San Jose Earthquakes haven't exactly set the world on fire.

Hayden Coulson has a year left on his current deal.. I think he will be released.

Zach Hemming has two years left.. I would have thought St. Mirren would be keen to retain his services.

Anfernee Dijksteel may well stay another year.. but he's not really getting much game time under Carrick and it makes sense to move on any fringe players to bring in potential/future first teamers.

I think they're all out of contract apart from Will Lankshear who might be available on loan.

We've still got a wedge from the Morgan Rogers sale.. plus we'd have a reduction in wages from our outgoings.

We've managed to bring in some canny players in recent years.. the likes of Lucas Nmecha & Folarin Balogun when you could say we were in a worse place financially.

Quote from: Johnny Thunder on May 28, 2024, 04:06:36 PMWhatever happens, it will be an interesting window.

Most likely that won't happen.. pure speculation.

Broad brushstrokes.. areas which we might need to strengthen, fringe players that may be on their way along with that could be available and that fit the profile of players we've brought in previously.

It's a little naive to suggest one rule for all and such a narrow field to look from.

Most newspaper links are rubbish, twitter linked players are quite often agents just trying to generate done interest. Even when the linked players are correct the deals don't always come together and even then the prices quoted are massively inflated.

BoroRedKen

Like the idea of Johnstone from WH. Think he would be a decent fit.

Some of the others im not to offay with but will have a read up on a few.
