I proper love this band!

Saw them at the Stockton Fringe in 2010.. after the gig the bass guitarist grasshopper asked if I and a few other wanted to go drinking with them.. I had work the next morning and was led away by the missus (surely grounds for divorce) pfft.. never gonna have THAT opportunity ever again! Sorry lads.. was drinking with Mercury Rev last night innit!

Anyway.. they have a new album out this year and are coming to England as part of the tour.. hoping to get tickets this week!

The time I didn't go to sink a few pints with my favourite band ever.. hold the front pages!

BoroRedKen

This is a fine Rev tune. My fave tbh.

Such a good tune! I think my fav might be this one..

BoroRedKen

Oh if you put a playlist up it must, as per the contract clauses in Erimus's transfer to RR, it MUST include either 1 Abba song OR a 70's disco bopalong.

Dems da rulez!

:bigjack

BoroRedKen

Its almost "cinematic score" music. Bit like Elbow and the alike.

And i must be losing my marbles 'cos i have Radioheads Kid A album on in the background. Never really "got them" til a few years ago.

Got some Beck lined up next!.

Here we go.. how's about this. If you like ABBA and 70's bopalong.. you MIGHT like this.
Los Angeles band 'Music go Music' with 'Warm in the Shadows' from 2012.. i'd consider it a bit of a hidden gem

they are made up of husband and wife duo David and Meredith Metcalf plus another bandmate Adam Siegel.. they were/are all in another band called Bodies of Water.. they played in the Westgath and completely blow me away. WELL WORTH CHECKING OUT!

BoroRedKen

A new 1 on me. Will check out some of their other stuff 1st before a give it a review!

My main "goto" band at home are these at the min.

Playing Leeds Festival in Aug. 150 nicker for a day ticket! Might just park up at Wetherby services should be able to hear it from there.

BoroRedKen

My all time fave band.......

BoroRedKen

It helps that i know them also. My bestie was their bass player for years.

Bodies of Water - Under the Pines

from 2008..

LOS Angeles quartet BODIES OF WATER have announced they will be bringing the sound of their new album to Teesside.

The core group consists of married couple David and Meredith Metcalf (playing guitar and keyboards, respectively), drummer Jessie Conklin, and bass guitarist Kyle Gladden.

However, the band often plays LA shows with five or more additional musicians, including producer Adam Siegel on guitar, as well as horn players, an additional drummer, and strings.

All members of the band sing, including players added for local shows.

They play loud, intricate songs and sing very emphatically, usually all at once. They draw from a number of disparate traditions, combining the metaphysical intensity of gospel, the primitive gusto of punk rock, the earnest idiosyncracy of American folk, the sonic inclusiveness of tropicalia, the planned jamming of prog and the sincere melodrama of musical theatre.

On Saturday, October 4, the band will be bringing this amazing mish-mash to the Westgarth Social Club on Southfield Road in Middlesbrough for the gig organised by local promoters The Kids Are Solid Gold.

Bodies of Water's first EP and album was reviewed favourably by music critics such as Pitchfork Media and Rolling Stone magazine's New Music blog.

Critics have often compared their music to that of Ennio Morricone, Arcade Fire, The Mamas and the Papas, and Secretly Canadian label-mates Danielson.

Bodies of Water's first full-length album, Ears Will Pop and Eyes Will Blink, was originally released on their own Thousand Tongues label, and was only available in a few stores, at live shows, or directly from the band via their website. After Secretly Canadian signed Bodies of Water, the label re-released the album nationally on January 22, 2008.

I think the boro music scene is slowly picking back up.. but Stockton has it in the bag now with all our bigger venues going toodle pip.. The Arena, The Westgarth etc

BoroRedKen

Another great punk band Leatherface, from Sunderland, wrote this amazing tune in his memory (Andy committed suicide but this song sums him up perfectly.)

BoroRedKen

I quite liked that B.O.W tune for a 1st hearing. A lot going on it though! Need to get the headphones, cold glass of Pepsi and give a few a listen.

BoroRedKen

I was chatting not long ago to the owner of a pub up here and he has just built like a barn type thing on it and i told him about the Westgarth closing and there is a spot needed to replace it.

Dont think Skelton is ready for what i do unfortunately refer to as "Fly me music" tbh.

Dog knows his onions about gigs and music.

I have a compilation I got years ago from Q magazine, it had "Holes" on it , it's a great track. Other than that I don't really know their music.

BoroRedKen

Holes is prob the most well known Rev track. They had a big chart success with it.

BoroRedKen

From 1 good Rev to another (Tenuous i know!)..

BoroRedKen

There was a guy, sadly passed away, that was Flyme regular and really big on the booking scene round the North East (head is in the shed just cant remember his name ffs).

Would of been the 1 to get the "Teesside" music scene back up and running.

BoroRedKen

Im "barred" from The Western still i think (and the cycling club i think!).

I did say no ice in my coke!........

BoroRedKen

Tried every trick in the book to get barred from the Sammys club but they were having none of it!
