We were a very young inexperienced team who couldn't keep a clean sheet & were finding it hard to win games, not a very god combination, with two victories to our name since the turn of the year & slipping down the 1st division table when on this day we played Southampton at home, the last team we beat so far that season

Gary Hamilton smashed a corker to put us one up, Gary Gill was told to run off a broken leg, we then conceded & then fell behind, only for Bernie Slaven, who else & Mark Burke to bring us a much needed point, we can't buy a win but it's now 3 draws out of 4

A crowd of 16,983 at Ayresome Park were hopeful that the Boro will have enough to survive in the top flight after gaining promotion the previous summer & just inch by inch crawl over the finishing line, that team, full of heart, passion & desire to succeed certainly deserved a 2nd season in the top flight

Love the pic of the ticket, Erimus. Didn't realise that badge was around for as long as it was. When the club was saved by Gibbon, was one of his first actions changing the badge?
