John Hickton made his Boro debut at Ayresome Park in a third division game on the 24th September 1966 & with Dicky Rooks missing big John wore the No5 shirt, he was also our penalty taker

During the game & trailing Workington 2-0 Boro were awarded a penalty, no one would volunteer with Rooks out so big John stepped forwars, grabbed the ball, placed it on the spot, took his trademark run up & buried the kick, Boro were back in the game & wentvon to win 3-2

The previous season (1965/66) Boro played away to Cardiff in the final fixture of the season, whoever won stayed up
Unfortunately Cardiff won 5-3 with Dicky Rooks scoring a hat trick but not to be as Stan Andersons team were relegated to the 3rd division

RIP Dicky Rooks x

I have always thought that was my first game, but my mind plays games. I remember that Workington had V necks, but again I could be wrong.

No mention OTR, hardly surprising.

They do have a Joe Kinnear RIP thread though, bless them.

Dicky Rooks made his Boro debut in the worst possible start ever, a 6-0 thrashing at Huddersfield Town

Registered No446 when Raich Carter handed him the No5 shirt & between 1965/69 he played 150 games, scoring 14 goals, left Boro for Bristol City

A lady i know (former Ayresome Angel) was really gutted because DR was her fave player.

Bit before my time to see him as a player but i know about his Boro stint.

RIP Dickie. x
