Sir Matt Busby not only turned out for the mighty Boro but scored too

League football was suspended during the war years but regional leagues still carried on with the help of guest players making up the teams, if they were stationed there would represented them, both Matt Busby who made 19 appearences for the boro, scoring 3 goals, one in the league north, war cup & west riding cup & Bill Nicholson, who made 2 appearences & who went on to manage Spurs & the 1st manager to do the double in the 20th century

Matt Busby scored this day in a 4-3 win over Newcastle

Aged 18, Busby signed for Man City on a one-year contract worth £5 per week on 11 February 1928, with the provision for him to leave at the end of the deal if he still wished to emigrate to the United States with his mother
He decided to stay & made his debut for City on 2 November 1929, more than 18 months after first signing for the Blues, when he played at inside left in a 3–1 win at home to Boro in the 1st divison
