MFC v MFC

If ever a phrase 'after the Lord's mayor show' is more fitting than it has to be this Saturdays fixture,  Millwall v Boro game has to be up there
Following our fantastic performance & win on Tuesday evening when the mighty Boro beat the London media darlings, Chelsea, in the league cup semi-final 1st leg at a bouncing Riverside Stadium, just how good does that sound

Michael Carrick has added Finn Azaz & Luke Ayling to the squad, I would love to know Finns thoughts on his new teammate's performance & the crowd from the other night, our recent signing from Aston Villa, who was on loan at Plymouth when Carrick was aware of his ability & after enquiring about him got him to sign on the dotted line & become another piece in the Boro jigsaw, with Ayling arriving on loan to help out a depleted team short on numbers

Millwall started off the season in good form who worthy winners in the opening game of the season 1-0 at the Riverside, although they started suffering defeats & slipping down the league, sitting in 15th place, 4 points behind the Boro
On Tuesday night we had two more players Latte Lath & Bangura added to our ongoing injury list, we've been dogged with all season & what seems like EVERY single player has, at some point, spent time on the treatment table, 14 & counting

On the plus front this Saturday we'll have Rogers back, having served his one league cup game ban. Greenwood, who is cup tied. Azaz, who also missed the chance to play is cup tied. While another loanee from Leeds, Luke Ayling, our 114th loaned player, to add to the heroes who performed brilliantly in our great cup win

In season 1967-68 David Smith, outside left, played 4 games for the Boro, 2 in the cups & 2 in the league, with both league games against Millwall

6th February 1904 FAC 1st round - Millwall 0 Boro 2 first meeting between both teams in London

Millwall v Boro fixture will be the 33rd fixture in South London between the 2 teams with the following record:

Won - 8
Drew - 8
Lost - 16
Goals scored - 36
Goals against - 45

Represented Boro & Millwall

Bruce Rioch managed both teams

Joseph Gettins – Born in the Boro is the oldest player to represent both teams, Joseph was a member of our 1894/95 FA Amateur cup winning team & played in our first ever football league games away & home games v Lincoln & Small Heath – His career seemed to see him change to Boro & Millwall numerous times

Boro goalkeeper Pat Cuff – Made his Boro debut on the 9th April 1974 in a 0-0 draw at home to Bolton, incidentally, that match seen Boro go for the 10th consecutive wins on the bounce record, but the draw ended that, I told Pat Cuff at a former player reunion & he replied, well you can't blame me for that. When John Neal came as manager, he tried both Pat Cuff & David Brown, neither he thought we up to challenging Jim Platt for the No1 shirt & let both keepers leave, IMHO Pat Cuff was a far better keeper than Jim Stewart who replaced him & Dave Brown, Cuff signed for Millwall in June 1978

Colin Cooper – A legend at both clubs, a rare player who was as good in his second spell at the Boro as he was in his 1st - Signed for Millwall in July 1991

Paul Kerr - Ironically his final goal for the Boro was away to Millwall in a 2-2 draw on the 20th March 1991, with Boro were trailing 2-0, Paul Kerr came on as sub & scored the 1st goal, Mogga equalised, PK played one more game before his transfer to Millwall

August 1992 Brian Horne -  with Stephen Pears injured & Ian Ironside being the only recognised goalkeeper Brian Horne was signed on loan from Millwall, named as sub, wearing the No12 shirt against Ipswich at home, IIRC, the 1st Boro keeper to wear the No12 shirt & be named as sub. BH played the next 3 games, winning 2 & drawing one

Paul Wilkinson - Our 609th registered player when Lennie signed him in August 1991, made his debut home to Millwall, played 202 games, with an impressive 65 goals – Played for Millwall in 1997/98 season

Uwe Fuchs – Our final loanee at Ayresome Park Uwe scored 9 goals for the Boro in 15 games, more or less got us over the line for automatic promotion & with Robbo not keeping him on went to Millwall in 1995 & was a bit of a let down, most likely his heart was still at the Boro

Mark Crossley – At Millwall on loan in season 1998 – Played 23 games for the Boro between
2000/03

Justin Hoyte – Our 775th registered player when Southgate brought him to the Boro, he played 162 games, scoring 2 goals – Signed on loan to Millwall in 2013 & stayed till 2015

George Saville - 89th loaned player - Loaned from Millwall & after 16 games & 2 goals signed permanently - 56th at the Riverside – resigned for Millwall

Scott McDonald – Played 116 games for the Boro between 2010/13 scoring 37 goals, - Signed for Millwall from the Boro in 2013

Diego Fabbrini – Played for Millwall in 2015 – Signed for the Boro in season 2016/17

Ryan Fredericks - On loan at Millwall in 2014 - Our 68th loaned player - Loaned from Spurs in 2014/15 our 47th at the Riverside in 2014/15 playing 17 games

Sean St Ledger – Our 39th loaned player - Loaned from Preston, player asked for loan contract to be cancelled - 17th at the Riverside, played 15 games, scoring 2 goals – Signed for Millwall on loan in 2013

One away hat tricks v Millwall

6/12/2014 – Jelle Vossen became the 59th different hat trick goalscorer & our last away hat trick to date when he scored the clubs 39th hat trick, 141 in total

Away penalties v Millwall

13/10/1928 Fred Kennedy became the 24th different Boro player to score an away penalty when he scored our 30th away spot kick in a second division - Lost 3-2

11/9/2012 Marvin Emnes became the 85th different Boro player to score an away penalty when he scored our 118th away spot kick in a second division - Lost 3-1

8/7/2020 Ashley Fletcher became the 92nd different Boro player to score an away penalty when he scored our 132nd away spot kick in a second division – Won 2-0

2 away debuts v Milwall

19/02/2010 – Andrew Davies - 49th loaned player - loaned from Southampton - Returned 2nd spell - 27th at the Riverside – won 3-2

Ayling our 1009 player &  Azaz our 1010th debutants, with Ayling also our 114th loanee

The reason Ayling is registered before Azaz is down to the numbered shirt only
