The Midnight Sky - George Clooney.

End of the world 2049 and Clooney is Augustine Lofthouse, an astronomer who has been part of a programme looking for habitable planets to colonise.
Someone cunt's gone and pressed the big red button and nuclear war means it's the end of the world. Everyone leaves the arctic circle observation site where he is based (and they presumably all die) and he decides to stay to try to warn a spacecraft, coming back from a planet they've been assessing for two years for colonisation, that the world is fucked and not to bother coming back.
Then he finds a young mute girl called Iris has been left behind with him..

It's okay, a bit overly sentimental but not a bad way to while away a few hours before CO2 or Convid wipes us all out.
