Over our football league history we have played 31 games on Xmas day, friendlies not included, which we actually did back in time, but between 1905 to the final fixture on this day 1957, with the following record

Our 1st fixture on this day, as a league club, was back in 1905 when played at home to Birmingham City in front of our biggest crowd of the season 20,000 seen our world record transfer fee player Alf Common score the only goal of the game to score his 6th goal of the campaigne

The following Xmas day fixture 1906 seen our neighbours travel up the (A19 😉) it sounds good, in front of our biggest crowd of the season & 3rd joint highest since moving in to Ayresome Park seen the Boro win our 2nd Xmas day fixture 2-1 with goals from Fred Wilcox, his 6th of the season & William Brawn doubling his goals for the season

The next 2 Xmas days fixtures 1907 & 1908 were both away Sheff Utd & Blackburn respectively, both games ending 0-0

1909 our 1st Xmas day defeat, well thrashing, when again 25k crammed into Ayresome Park to see the Boro thumped 3-7 by Bradford, John Hall with his 9th of the campaigne & Steve Bloomer with his 7th goal of the season

1911 Everton came to Ayresome Park & go away with a 0-0 draw

1913 a 3-1 loss at Brammel Lane, another iconic goalscoring legend, striker George Elliott, score his 11th of the season

1914 Boro back to winning on this day & 1st win since 1906 when Walter Tinsley, a cracking forward back then, scored the only goal & his 9th of the season at home to Notts County, in front of our lowest Xmas day crowd of 9k

1919 our 1st Xmas fixture after the great war seen us travel to Turf Moore, unfortunately on the losing side with goals from George Elliot, his 12th of the season, George Carr his 1st Boro goal & Rhuben Butler his 7th goal

1920 George Elliot, again, with his 19th of the season & one of the 4 famous Carr brothers John 'Jack', scored his 3rd of the campaigne with a 2-0 win over Huddersfield in front of our biggest Xmas day crowd at Ayresome Park of 35k

1922 again George Elliot, grabbed our only goal in a 1-1 draw away to Newcastle

1923 We travelled to Turf Moore again, this time coming away with a goalless draw

1924 Man Utd were our visitors in a 1-1 draw with Jesse Williams getting his 1st ever Boro goal, attendance 18,500

1925 our 1st ever 2nd division & London Xmas day clash, Boro losing 2-0 at Craven Cottage

1926 - Maine road where the mighty put on a 1st class display winning Boro win 5-3, whoelse, but George Camsell who became the 4th Boro player, out of a total of 7, to score 5 in one game
His previous 6 games he hit, 4, 1, 4, 1, 2, 4, taking his seasons tally to date to 31 in 16 games, truly amazing grabs 5

1928 another 5 goal win, this time at Ayresome Park when Owen Williams grabbed a brace, Robert Bruce, George Camsell & Billy Peace getting a goal each with a 5-1 win over Port Vale

1929 seen our 2nd Xmas day match away to Newcastle this time losing 3-2 with our goals coming from Billy Pease & Robert Bruce

1931 seen George Camsell score another Xmas day goal, unfortunately we went down 7-1 away to Aston Villa

1933 another Xmas day clash at Ewood Park & another goalless draw

1936 seen the start of 4 consecutive Xmas day matches away to Leeds without a single win, this one we lost 5-0

1937 we fared a bit better with evergreen George Camsell scoring his final Xmas day goal, Micky Fenton bagged a 1st Boro Xmas day goal & Norman Highman scoring our third in a 5-3 defeat

The war came & went with our 1st Xmas day fixture & 3rd on the trot away to Leeds, another defeat, this time 1-0

1946 our 4th, this time we avoided defeat, a brace from Johnny Spuhler & a Micky Fenton goal earned us a 3-3 draw

1947 we travelled to the capital for our 2nd Xmas day fixture in London when we entertained Charlton at the Valley, again we failed to score as the home team ran out 1-0 winners

1948 we made the short journey up the (A19😉) to visit our neighbours Sunderland, losing 1-0

1950 & in front of our biggest Xmas day crowd of 41, 318 seen Johnny Spuhler & Robert Walker score the goals to beat our 1st division rivals Newcastle 2-1

1952 our 3rd & last Xmas day visit to the capital & so far resulting in one loss & a draw, without us scoring, well this day we scored when Oscar Norris scored his last ever Boro goal on his final Boro away game, but unfortunately Spurs scored 7😞

1953 We travelled to Newcastle with the same result as the last time we played them on Xmas day, 3-2, our goals coming from Johnny Spuhler & Robert Walker, Ironically the last time these two scored on this day we won at home to Newcastle, not so this time

1954 our 5th & final Xmas day visit away to Leeds, we lost the 1st 3 games, but like the previous game the game finished in a draw, with one in three goals Joseph Scott getting ours in a 1-1 draw

1956 our final Xmas day home game & penultimate fixture when Doncaster came to Ayresome Park & with goals from Bill Harris & a Brian Clough brace seen us run out 3-2 winners

1957 seen us play our final Xmas day fixture when we travelled to Leeds Road Huddersfield, losing 1-0

Well some cracking wins, plenty of goals from our iconic, legend of a centre forward George Camsell over the years on this day & unfortunately, plenty of too much Xmas pudding resulting in a few stuffings 🎄
