When John Hendrie scored Boro's 1st ever PL hat trick, our Boro became the 1st team to beat Blackburn Rovers away frpm home that, when recovering from a goal down to win 3-2 at Ayresome Park.

In the Blackburn Rovets team that afternoon was one of the 1986 Boro legends, Stuart Ripley, nervous & disapointed, returning to the Boro for the 1st time since his big money transfer during the close season

It was John Hendries 1st of 3 Boro career hat tricks, our 89th hat trick at AP & 127 in total since becoming a league club in 1899

I was in the Holgate for this one

Great game and great result

Ripley was very emotional in that game. He got subbed in the 2nd half but should have been much earlier, he wasn't coping.

Was apparently worried what sort of reception he would get from the crowd. When he got a great reception it moved him to tears.

Can't imagine any of that team that rose from the ashes ever getting a bad reception at Boro

I suppose he was the first returning hero though

I would bloody hope not. Legends each and every one of them. Even Gary 'database' Gill 🙂
