After 7 attempts from 1899 to November 24th 1956 we failed to record a single win on this day, then on this day 1962 we changed that stat when beating Rotherham United 2-1 at Ayresome Park in front of an attendance of 12,478, with goals from ( and how ironic, when I posted a thread about his namesake only today) Richard Neal & Robert Hume

It was Richard Neals, who wore No6 shirt, scoring 8 goals in 38 appearances between 1961/63 & Robert Hume, only season 1962/3, wearing the No11 shirt, scored 5 goals in 21 appearances, both players scored their final Boro goal that day as Boro went on to their season in 4th place

Our highest position since relegation from the top flight in 1954, though the stats show that Bob Dennison was manager until January then replaced by Raich Carter

We had decent firepower back then in 1962/3 season, Alan Peacock scored 31 goals, Arthur Kaye in 14 & Ian Gibson on 12

We did indeed but we also had bent defenders placing bets on games and letting in 85 goals the 3rd worst in the division!

Which was a factor in why Cloughy left us....

Yea me dad use to tell me stories about Brian Cloughs time at the Boro, the round Robin, or Cloughy saying in the changing room after another high scoring defeat, if I score 5 next week will we win!
