This meant the UK was at the bottom of the biggest G7 economies in terms of its recovery from the pandemic.

However, the upward revision could now mean that the UK economy is performing much better than Germany and is only just behind France and Italy when the ONS releases its latest figures.

Two paragraphs following each other from the department for stats.

So who's fault is that then?

In nominal terms Russia's economy is about the size of Italy, but in PPP terms it just overtook Germany, and if you count in the size of its industry and the wealth of its raw materials then it is a lot more powerful player in the global economy than it seems. / bne IntelliNews

The late US Senator John McCain once called Russia a "gas station masquerading as a country" and the fact that Russia's nominal GDP is about the same as Italy's has long been used to dismiss it as unimportant.

However, economists have long argued that considering only Russia's nominal GDP of around $2 trillion is to underestimate its economic strength. Arguably, the belittling of Russia over the last decade has led Western leaders to badly miscalculate how vulnerable the Kremlin is to sanctions.

Looking at GDP in PPP (purchasing power parity) terms removes price level differences and allows a better comparison, especially of living standards, between countries.

In these terms Russia has just overtaken Germany to become the fifth wealthiest economy in the world and the largest in Europe, worth $5.3 trillion.

Treason May once said not long ago something like they will be begging us for our forgiveness once these sanctions kick in  :diego:  Might have been Johnson I am not sure.

Our economies wrecked because of all the stuff they did through the scam demic then once that was over they forced Russia into invading Ukraine .. All money draining to us tax payers it's why we are paying over the odds for everything you can name . were broke . Same as the Daft Germans who let America blow up it's cheap gas line from Russia ..loads of cheap gas down the pan and who came to save the day the Americans with their Liquified gas sent to the Germans at 4 X 's the price they were once getting it from Russia  :rav:

Couldn't make it up.
