Used to see him when I was a kid with my dad when we did Normanby Hall cricket club during the summer.

He might even have played for them - I can't be 100% sure on that bit but he was often there on a Saturday during the cricket season. Smoked a pipe, if again memory serves me right.

RIP John Coddington

John a no nonsense CH who played for Huddersfield came to the Boro in the 70's as coach, he applied for the managers job when Willie Maddren was dismissed but later left the club when Willie brought Rioch in 86, replacing John as the club as 1st team coach

John was manager of Horden in the Northern League in 1984.

I grew up with his daughter Samantha. Always a sound bloke (as long as you behaved in The Ship!).

RIP John.

Love to the family.

Had a sports shop at Normanby corner for a while (before The Ship Inn as it was called then!)

Remember being in the Ship, and 2 blokes walked in and started singing a song by Nat King Cole.  They had great vioces and were note perfect.  Coddy told them to stop singing......they didnt....and he kicked them out!

Im actually quite sad about this tbh.

I used to call him Ledge on FB when chatting to old school friends (Sam etc).

Its really sad that his memory went but what a life he led.

In my prayers tonight i will ask Carmen to buy him a pint up there.

RIP X

Sad news.

Did he manage for one game ?

Away to Charlton ? Won ?

Not sure, maybe mistaken 🤷

BoroRedKen

I sent Samantha a message paying tribute to her dad and she said thanks for the kind words to you all.

Why is everybody dying?

Are we just hearing about it more because of various "problems" going on?

I am becoming almost desensitised about death.

RIP Ledge x
