Mid 70's there were rumours over a couple of summers that we were going to sign Motherwells & Scotland CF Willie Pettigrew for £300k, big Jack mentioned this a few times, bothing came of it

Signed Alf Wood instead and saved 120k if I remember rightly

Signed Alf Wood instead and saved 120k if I remember rightly

Not a good signing either, 2 goals for us

Remember that Croatian player we were going to buy for £1m when Robbo first joined?
It was announced in the Gazette as a done deal but it fell through because of a work permit. Or maybe his medical.

I remember our interest in Willie Pettigrew but after seeing the first pic never realised he modeled himself on Max Wall!
Another bullet we dodged from north of the border was Aberdeen's Doug Rougvie.
