The mighty Boro, who were struggling with injuries to a few 1st teamers, beat 2nd top of the 1st divison (now PL) Aston Villa 2-1, who included golden boy at the time Dave Platt at Villa Park in the ZDA SF 1st leg

We went a goal behind, equalised & scored a dramatic late, late winner
Boro are now 90 minutes away from our 1st ever visit to the famous twin towers

Aston Villa who were going great guns in the the 1st divison (now PL) back then were to be to strong for Bruce Rioch's struggling & weakened team, but quite the opposite, as the Boro not only fought the rain but the initial Villa onslaught, to fight back from a goal down & match Villa throughout the entire match, we draw level from, who else, Bernie Slaven & then, right at the death, seal victory with a beauty from Mark Brennan
