Sir Digby

Will always be a legend to me, my first proper favourite player.

RiversideRifle

Met Bernie quite a few times and always seemed a decent lad. Gave me loads of memorabilia on a stadium tour when I was younger

Met Bernie a few times. Always polite and willing to chat.
Don't condemn him on one twitter post. I'm sure we've all done something we've regretted

Been reading his awesome match reports on FB, someone OTR even called him a silly old man regarsing his removed post, so much for respect hey, im a month older than Bernie & dont consider myself old, maybe recently unfit but not old

But his match reports are fantastic to read, wish he would give me a couple of the same game reports

Told him to continue posting his match reports, love em

Our forever 1986 legend & yes he's earned the right to keep sitting in the corner of any Costa coffee shop hoping people will walk by, drive by recognising him, wanting to chat with him

A legend in his own right, got to much bad publicity for an error of judgement, we owe him a lot, IMO mind

This day 19th October 1985 - A goalscoring legend opened his account for the mighty Boro

Bernie Slaven made a home scoring debut this day
What a signing by the late, great Willie Maddren, who had seen enough of what Bernie had, especially when he scored a brace against todays opponents in a trial match

Within 17 minutes on the clock when scored his first ever league goal past the very same opponents he did in his trial match
Bernie become only the 3rd different  player, that season, to find the back of the net when putting the Boro 1-0 v Bradford City at Ayresome Park, the game finished 1-1 with Stuart McCall equalising just after the hour mark

Bernie made his away debut a week previous when the Boro lost 1-0 at Leeds, Peter Lorimer scored the only goal from the spot

This day v Bradford, same as the Leeds game, Bernie was given the No9 shirt  infront of our biggest crowd of the season, 6,130

Bernie had sent a letter to every team in the top 2 divisions asking for a trial, what a signing by Willie Maddren who is the one man we should be grateful for in not only spotting a talented goalscorer but trying all night to get a board member to sign him following his trials, forever in Maddrens debt

Bernie, who was registeted No577 when making his debut v Leeds was named in the following team by Willie Maddren

Stephen Pears
Brian Laws
Pat Heard
Tony McAndrew
Don O'Riordon
Irving Nattrass
Gary Hamilton
Mitch Cook - 4th game, 1st start
Bernie Slaven
Dave Currie
Peter Beagrie

Im the same over Jim Platt Clemmy!.

I would be proper starstruck.

I have met and spoke to a few "well known people" over the years but never bumped into Platty.

Amazingly i would be lost for words 😁👍

Ken, Jim Platt is up there as one of the nicest, most respectable footballers I have ever met

Its just faux outrage and pack "VS" bollocks from the detractors.

Remember the grief posted about Gibbo when he dared to mention Tories? Warnock also.

Told you ages ago these wetwipes have killed football. No tribal. No fun. No sense of humour. No release for 90 mins from the life we have to endure everyday.

Who in their right minds will continue to buy SC and tickets when the "rules" and "regulations" become bigger than the actual match?.

Just read Newy tearing Nichols a new arsehole over DEI at MFC.

This is Middlesbrough FC. We can go as far back as Ugolini to show that Boro has always been a multi cultural team.

Closing in on 4.5 million pageviews here this year. 3 million in total for 2023. Dont dare tell me RR does not now have the reach.
Yet "organisations" that have not even put up a FB post up for 7 months sit on the MSF.

I say it publicly. Nichols only wants yes men and sheep.

Boro fans are bothered about ticket prices. The concourse. The shop.
Not fucking DEI.
Making issues about a club with a multi cultrual history from a town with a multi cultural rich history.
Even in "social regards". The town has for the last 30yrs had a thriving gay scene.

Its not inclusion that is the issue.
Its exclusion......

I get the love for the big names that have played for us but growing up Platty was the player i looked up to. He always seemed so relaxed in goal. Like it was 2nd nature to him.
And i cant find anyone who has anything negative to say about Jimbo.
The ultimate professional in my book.

Proper fanboy! Can ya tell? 😅😅👍

In fact if anyone has anything signed by Platty (shirt, book programme etc) i would very interested in buying said article.

PM me.
👍👍

Well said Newy, 👍

The same board that shouts down individuals who have a difference of opinion, the very same board of members who will call others uneducated racist, biggot scum, the very same board that if my name still gets mentioned the odd few will have a dig for whatever reason, to get a like, then they'll move onto another thread about mental health issues & be kind & then gush over that thread, what about my mental health, only last month I was called a d*#@ for daring to post pop songs 5, 6 years ago because I didnt like all the abusive political posts, get your own board sorted before moving on

Watched him live yesterday evening on FB when he talks about the match from the Dovecot, fans post comments & he goes over each point, enjoy listening to Bernie especially when he harps on about Ayresome Park & the old days, which he did yesterday 😁
