Tough act to follow now.

Unless he wins the next tournament, it's failure

GET WELL SOON STEVE G

I don't get it on social media, there's a fair few that are unhappy with this appointment. Young manager, managed at the top clubs in Europe and won many trophies as well. His CV is way beyond any English coach we have, and the only two that were probably better options were Klopp and Pep. Neither a real possibility at this moment in time. Joking apart, Carsy or Potter would have been a disaster, I think Carsy deliberately fucked the game against Greece on purpose so he could be taken out of the running. Potter, won and done fuck all in comparison, he needs to get back to club football and prove himself. If he thinks he's getting a big club, he's delusional. It'll be interesting to see how England play under Tuchel, but one thing is for sure he will plan a team and formation best suited to the players we have. This guy at least has a plan A,B & C which will be refreshing.

I dont think its a manager thing TBH, I really think its an ego players within the England setup thing, when you think the group of players, collectively we've had since since 66 & how awful our record has been, Southgate apart, it says a lot

Maybe Southgate came across differently away from the media on how he is & the players bought into it

Going off the Greece highlights & watching Bellingham flapping his arms about like a seal, trying to get the crowd going as if its their fault & not the awful players on the pitch

When teams that have individual players who think they are better than the players around them is when you have problems

My take on it anyway

History will have Southgate down as a successful manager but his football bar the 2018 WC was awful to watch and frustrating beyond unknown levels. He got lucky with the group draws and bottled it big time against Italy, France and to an extent Spain. I just hope that Tuchel can get us over the line and win a tournament, but playing like champs on the road to victory. My opinion, I think we have a pool of players that can accomplish this, we just need a head coach to get them to realise it

Agree he did get lucky, but for me you need luck to win any cup competition, but we've had big players & good teams in the past & done nothing & I wouldnt be suprised if we go back to becoming a pre Southgate team, not because who the manager is, just how he treats them, maybe im miles wrong, time will tell

Southgate success was relative compared to others that preceded him, he didn't bottle the finals he just didn't have the tactical nous to adapt and change things on the hoof.England are the Boro of international sides, winning the WC gave us a false level of ability,it's no coincidence  we've won nothing since.

Certainly do need a big fat slice of luck Erimus and hopefully it will all fall into place. Agree also, time will tell how things go with Tuchel.

What I don't get is, that he won't be taking control until Jan 1st. Get him in now, for the next two matches.

The negative reaction is because of two things:
1. He's German
2. The belief that England is a strong enough footballing nation to be able to have a countryman as manager and not rely on any foreigner

Southgate is, and always will be, limited as a manager and I'm glad he has gone. He did some very good things BUT he was very lucky and inflexible.  He couldn't make in match decisions and he absolutely threw away the Italy final - which was the final straw for me. Some of his team set ups in the last tournament were bizarre too.

I agree with comments above about some of the current crop of players.  For example. Bellingham is turning into a Billy Big Bollocks Bellend at lightening speed.

Tuchel has been successful everywhere he has been and is a proven big time good manager - he deserves a chance.  Plus I can't think of an available/good enough English alternative.

100% scored a couple of decent goals but........

Bud Wiser

The only viable home grown alternatives were the two passionless pricks Howe & Potter.

Glad to have Tuchel on board.

I think we're in good hands. He shows passion - something we have lacked. Has managed big players - so no ego tolerated
Has the tactical nouse and I really think with the players at his disposal we could well be on to a winner.

Totally agree on comments above

This day & age is shouldnt matter what nationality managers our national team, does it in any other big industry!

Eddie Howe, who I think is a good manager, but is he an improvement on Southgate, who IMO, done a very good job, better than anyone since Ramsey
Potter on leaving Brighton for Chelsea was earmarked by the media as a future England manager & look how that turned out
Sven, god rest his soul, had a similar record to Tuchel abroad, had a good crop of England players to chose from but a similar outcome as previous managers

Tuchel will find out if he's good enough, not only to better Southgates record but to put out a team of players who play for each other & not themselves
