The day the 6th September 1986, a third division fixture

6,499 at Ayresome Park seen the Boro beat Bury by 3 goals to one, Archie Stephens with a brace from & a Bernie strike

Two win out of the first 3 games is good in anyone's book & progress to the next round of the league cup after beating neighbours Hartlepool in a two legged cup match in midweek, but when you take in to account we'd had no practise matches, friendlies, or a ground to train on, then it showed the spirit, togetherness, the desire & the skill within the team, in what was to be an unforgettable season

Happy birthday Ken, you share you're birthday on the very day league football was thankfully & at times against the odds brought back to Ayresome Park

Bruce's historic team

Stephen Pears
Brian Laws
Colin Cooper
Tony Mowbray
Gary Parkinson - Ayresome Park debut
Gary Pallister
Bernie Slaven
Archie Stephens
Gary Hamilton
Gary Gill
Stuart Ripley

Lee Turnbull

We can all follow City, United & Liverpool's of this world, but there's nothing like following your local team through thick & thin & thin again, UTMB forever x

What a fantastic post Erimus Thanks.

I remember that game.

I was only a young lad in 1986.

And i was in Hemlington Hospital at the time. (spent 16 weeks in there at that time).

So if its ok with you E-Man i will now take this as my birthday memory of '86 instead!
