Brightons first ever second division game seen them face a fierce Boro forward line on the opening game of the season

Brightom maybe wished they'd stayed in the third division as the Boro thrashed Brighton 9-0 at Ayresome Park, unfortunaly for them, they came up against one of the best strikers in the game, Brian Clough

He was clinical that day, bagging 5 goals, the 6th time a Boro player had scored 5 in a competative game

Alan Peacock & Bill Harris completed the scoring with a brace apiece, Bill Harris goals coming from the penalty spot

Attendance - 32,367

Later on in the seaon Boro won 6-3 at Brighton with Cloughy bagging another hat trick
