RIP David Armstrong - Once in a lifetime player, left us far to soon x

After making 12 appearances between April 1972 to 27th January David was left out of the following 7 games by then manager Stan Anderson then brought back in to the 1st team for 13th game of his short career to date, unaware of what he was about to achieve
One of big Jacks diamonds & along with a few from that amazing team, a remarkable player that came through the ranks of the mighty Boro

3/4/1972 - David made his debut away to Blackpool

28/10/1972 - Aston Villa away after 9 appearances scored his first goal in a 1-1 draw

24/3/1973 -  Aston Vila in a 1-1 draw at Ayresome Park & what followed is truly remarkable, playing every single league & Cup game, including 99% of friendlies for 7 seasons
6/9/1980 - Forest away showing a teamsheet without David Armstrongs name on it for the first time since 24/3/1973

3/1/1981 - Swansea away FAC 3rd round, first cup match David Armstrong missed since a league cup fixture at hoe to Wrexham on the 5/9/1972, Boro winning 2-0
A remarkable 356 consecutive games, including countless friendlies, that will probably never be beaten, what a player & record, a remarkable player who should have regularly played for England, how he didn't is criminal

Stan Anderson team v Villa on the date a tremendous record was started

DAVID ARMSTRONG
Malcolm Smith
Graeme Souness - 10th appearance
Alan Foggon - 9th appearance

One day short of 12 months since he started his incredible run he scored the only goal of the game at home to Oxford to guarantee promotion to the 1st division
Registered No489 when he made his debut on 3rd April 1972 in an away defeat at Blackpool, wearing his famous No11 shirt, he went onto play 416 games, 3 as sub, scoring 73 goals
A vital member in the best ever Boro team in my lifetime & one of the very best players in our history
Met Dave Armstrong a number of times at former player reunions, lovely person, he always happy to chat with fellow Boro supporters & played a big part in getting the famous 73/74 team back to the Boro for reunions
