Am trying to book a holiday for late September. Has anyone been to the Black Forest region of Germany - any thoughts recommendations. The other alternative kicking around is Croatia. Anyone been to both?

Croatia is superb. Been to Dubrovnik and Split.
When we were visiting Dubrovnik, we stayed just outside in a place called Lapad.
Much quieter with a lovely coved beach. Sardines were fuckin excellent.
If you do the walls, do it early. It gets seriously hot and you are exposed up there.

Split also has lots of history. plenty to see.
From here though, you can visit the island locations of Brac and Hvar. We did the latter.
Stunning country.

Bavaria, beautiful part of the world, but will be pricey.

You can get flights to Zadar, Croatia, direct from Newcastle, I worked just off there, island called Preko. Both beautiful places, and you'll get plenty for your buck. Flights return from newcastle with Ryan Air, around £120

Or fly into one and out of the other. Means you can visit a few islands on the way up / down
