Was born on this day in Lucca, a city on the Serchio river in Italy's Tuscany region

1925 his family moved to Scotland, were he appeared as a triallist in the North-Eastern League with Heart of Midlothian, his senior career started with Celtic, though his 1st team games were limited due to the excellent keeper they had between the sticks

He later turned down a move to Chelsea, but in May 1948 he signed for the mighty Boro for £7k becoming our 26th used GK where he soon established himself as the clubs No1, this was dispite conceding 7 goals on his 1st game, a pre-season friendly for Boro

He made his 1st team league debut against the very team he had previously turned down, when on the 21st August 1948 the mighty Boro lost 1-0 at Stamford Bridge

Rolando went on to make 335 appearence for the Boro between 1948 - 56
On the 28th April 1956, Rolando played his final Boro game away to Port Vale in a 3-2 defeat
