One of the greatest nights EVER to be a Boro fan 😅

Boro faced F.C Basle in the UEFA cup quarter finals at the Riverside, Boro trailing 2-0 from the 1st leg away in Switzerland

We face a tricky task in the home return leg & a message from Steve McClaren ringing in the players ears as they leave the dressing room, "keep calm, wait for an opening & strike, do not, I repeat, do not concede 1st or the tie is over", right boss they shout back

Well in front of the TV cameras the nation watched as we did just that, conceded 1st, making the worst possible start imaginable, a goal down so early on the night & now 3-0 down on aggregate, we now needed FOUR goals to go through to the semi finals, ain't gunna happen tonight, as the old classic 1970's TV advert when lower league team drew Arsenal away in the FAC, put them suits away lads 😔

Then the unthinkable, impossible, Roy of the Rovers storytale happened, the mighty Boro sparked an unbelievable comeback, that had the whole nation gasping & cheering us on, a brace from Mark Viduka & a scorcher from JFH put the mighty Boro 3-1 up on the night & level on aggregate, but WE were still going out on the away goals rule

With time fast running out, the clock ticking down Rockenbach smashed a shot which the keeper parried & from an acute & almost impossible angle, Massimo Maccarone scored an unbelievable winner sending us jubilant Boro fans in to orbit & beyond, our team are through to the semi finals of the UEFA cup
When looking at the footage again, I still look at Massimo shot & expect the keeper to save it, it's just not the Boro way to do things this way, something always goes wrong

Whoever was lucky to be there that night will live with that memory forever, a match that we could live to be 100 but would never, never, ever witness such emotions & comebacks again...................................
or will we 👌
How could you fail to be moved listening to Ali's voice on the commentary of that glorious night

Atmosphere was electric. A great memory with my dad who is sadly no longer here. It's those memories that live on though!
