This day 18th Jan 1902

After our previous win over Stockport County by 6 goals to nil at Linthorpe road we were again at home, with Glossop our opponents

After losing 1-0 away to Glossop earlier in the season we gained sweet revenge with our 1st win against Glossop, with another high scoring game, 5-0 to the mighty Boro

Our last 4 games have seen the Boro score 18 goals with a 2, 5, 6 & now 5, with one reply, since our last & our 2nd back to back defeats of the season we've bounced back in great style winning 4 on the bounce

The following Boro's 5 goals came from:
Dave Wright 5th goal of the season
Abraham Jones, 4th goal of the season
William Wardrobe scored a brace for his 5th of the campaigne
Joe Cassidy for his 9th of the campaigne

John Robsons team are the form team in the 2nd division & will take some stopping to be promoted to the 1st division, in only our 3rd season in the football league

Following our 5-0 league beating of Glossop on the 18th January we played 2 FAC cup games to complete our january fixtures

25th January we hosted Bristol Rovers at Linthorpe road with Joe Cassidy on target for the mighty Boro, unfortunately Rovers equalised & a replay was needed in 4 days

29th January Boro travelled to Bristol in good spirits with no loss since 21st December & 18 goals scored with one conceded since that defeat gave Boro good heart of coming away victorious, unfortunately the Boro struggled to make any impact & at the 1st hurdle as Rovers went through to roubd two with a 1-0 win
January was loojed back on as a successful month, 3 league wins out of 3

Back to league duty & on this day (1st February) Lincoln City were the visitors to Linthorpe road, a team we lost to earlier in the season 2-1

We failed to score at home for the 1st time that season as Lincoln fought hard to take a point away from the Boro in a game that ended 0-0

Lincoln City were the last team that season to take any home points off us & the last team to stop the Boro scoring at Linthorpe road

erimus74

After winning 4 on the bounce, 3 since January we drew our previous fixture 0-0 at home to Lincoln in front of 8,000 fans

Todays visit of Woolwich Arsenal gives the mighty Boro the chance to get back to winning ways & continue their challenge as one of the promotion favourites

And that is exactly what we did as Joe Cassidy got the only goal of the game, his 10th of the campaigne, keeping both points on Teesside & a step closer to the top flight

It was our 3rd double of the season

Johnny Thunder

Weren't Woolwich Arsenal supposed to be the team invited to the first Lipton World Cup when West Auckland were invited by mistake?
Or was that just a bit of made up bollocks for the film?

22nd February 1902 - Well the season is drawing closer to the finishing line with the final 12 games of our 1st ever promotion season as we prepare to travel to Oakwell to face Barnsley

Unbeaten in the league this calendar year & since losing at Bristol City 1-0 on the 21st December, yes they also beat us in our promotion season, lucky omen hey, we have played 6 league games, winning 4 on the bounce then drawing the 5th 0-0, we then beat Woolwich Arsenal 1-0 for our 6th unbeaten game, scoring 19 goals in the process, conceding just the one, the week before the Barnsley fixture, who sit in midtable

Boro just brushed aside Barnsley with a 7-2 thrashing, with the following goalscorers

John 'Jack' Brearley bagged 4, the 2nd that has happened in our history, taking his account to 16 for the season
Andrew Davidson doubling his seasons account
William Wardrobe scored his 6th of the campaigne
James Leslie with his 1st Boro goal of his career, he went on to score another 2 more in total

John Robsons team are matching leaders WBA at the top of the table, with the only difference between both teams is the 4 points they took off the mighty Boro over both games

1st March

Following the mighty Boro's excellent away 7-2 thrashing of Barnsley, Leicester Fosse were our visitors to Linthorpe road for this exciting second division fixture, we are in the final 11 games of this incredible season with the Boro looking odds on to win promotion & what an achievement with been in the football league for only 3 seasons

Leicester followed all other challengers before them, as the Boro again smashed a hatful of goals past our opponents, not as many as 7 the previous week, this time it was just the 5, with no reply from Leicester

David Smith started the rout with the Boro's 4th home penalty since joining the football league, his 6th of the season, 3 penalties
A brace from Joe Cassidy, for his 12th of the campaigne
James leslie, with his 2nd & penulimate Boro goal
James Crawford finished the scoring with his only career goal

Since our last defeat on the 21st December we have won 7 & drew one of the following 8 games, scoring 31, with conceding 3 goals, lethal at both ends

John Robsons team are a team full of goals & a back 5 big Jack would have been proud of

erimus74

8th March - The Boro carry on their great goalscoring unbeaten run, as we win our 4th game on the bounce & out of the last 9 games winning 8 & drawing one, this was truly our 1st excellent team with our 1st top notch defensive back 5

We've conceded 3 goals since 28th December, one in a 2-1 win over Blackpool & 2 against Barnsley in a 7-2 Boro win

Preston are the latest team to suffer at the hands of the Boro machine & even with home advantage they failed to halt the Boro juggernaut as we ran out comfortable 3-0 winners & edge that bit closer to the top tier

erimus74

15th March
The Boro juggernaught just rummbles on, Burnley are the next team to face the might of our forwards & the miserey of our defence, as we triumphed with another 3-0 home win Joe Cassidy started off the goals scoring his 12th of the season & further goals from John ' Jack' Brearley who bagged a brace recording his 18th & 19th of the campaigne

The Boro are going head to head with WBA fighting for the No1 spot to promotion

erimus74

March 22nd - Port Vale away

Boro had recorded 5 consecutive wins on the bounce & were hoping to increase that run when we travelled to PV for our promotion title chasing with WBA

Unfortunately Boro could only manage a 1-1 draw at Port Vale with Andrew Ramsey scoring his one & only Boro goal in his career

The previous 11 games had resulted in 4 wins, one draw, 5 wins, one draw, we had some team back then

erimus74

29th March - Chesterfield at Linthorpe road

The Boro promotion juggernaught just rolls on as we chase West Brom for that No1 promotion spot

Our last defeat was way back, 21st December to be exact, since that loss we've gone 12 games unbeaten, including two spells winning 4 & 5 games on the bounce, after two consecutive draws Chesterfield were to pay for our lack of wins as we recorded our second highest league win with a convincing 7-1 thrashing

With goals from, Robert Watson, William Wardrobe, a brace from Joe Cassidy & a treble from Alex Robertson, our 4th league hat trick, Robertson's 2nd Boro hat trick & our final hat trick at Linthorpe road before we moved across to Ayresome Park

5th April

We travelled to bottom of the league two Gainsborough Trinity, a team we beat 3-1 earlier in the season.

Boro had now gone a remarkable 13 games unbeaten, with 3 draws in that number & only 2 games without scoring a goal & following our 7-1 win at home to Linthorpe the previous week we carried on our good form with a convincing 4-1 away win with goals from William Wardrobe, John 'Jack' Brearly & a brace from Alex Robertson

As the mighty Boro continue to chase West Brom for the top spot

erimus74

7th April

2 days after winning 7-1 at Gainsborough Trinity we were on our travels again when we travelled to Newton Heath, later to become Man United, coming away with our 3rd win on the bounce & extending our unbeaten run to 15 games, not bad for a team in our 3rd season of league football, as the mighty Boro ran out 2-1 winners, with Abraham Jones & Alex Robertson recording our 6th double of the season

erimus74

12th April

Stop the press, after 15 league games, all the way from 21st December, Boro have lost a league game when we travelled to mid table Burton United for our penultimate second division way fixture coming away with a very rare defeat, our 5th & final defeat of our first promotion season as we go neck & neck with leaders West Brom

John 'Jack' Brearly got himself a brace recording his 22nd goals of the season, unfortunately Burton scored 3, the only time we conceded 3 goals that season

2 more games of the season remaining
