It took us 20 years, including a stint in the 3rd division to get back to the top flight, but after 4 managers & a temporary manager, we have finally made it back to old 1st division & in big style too

23/03/1974 Boro 1 Oxford 0

David Armstrong, who was one day short of celebrating 12 months of consecutive games, that will run until September 1980, scored the only goal of the game, his 4th of the season & with 7 games remaining, secured promotion back to the 1st Division for the 1st time since 1954

A crowd of 26,877, me & our Kev in the boysend, witnessed the long awaited potential champions gain the required points & what Boro fans, home & around the world, had been waiting for since going joint top back on the 29th September when the Boro beat then leaders, Bristol City 2-0

50 years later we're still remembering the famous 1973-74 team with such affection, how lucky were we back then, what a team, Charltons champions, me & our Kev in the boysend

I certainly wouldn't argue with that Erimus. They were class. Gave Division 1 a good go too.
