To Alan Foggon, a vital member of Charltons Champions, born in West Pelton

In November 1972 Alan Foggon became Stan Andersons penultimate signing when we paid Cardiff City £10k for his signature

On the 25th November 1972, wearing the No12 shirt, Stan Anderson named Foggon in the 1st team squad to face Swindon Town at Ayresome Park

When Alan Foggon replaced Eric McMordie in the 2nd half he was registered No492 to play in a 1st team game for the Boro. Unfortunately Boro went down 2-0

After 2 sub appearences, resulting in no goals for the Boro Alan, on his full Boro debut on the 30th December, scored the only goal as the Boro beat Oxford 1-0 at Ayresome Park, at the finish of the season he stats showed what a good signing he was with an impressive 7 goals in 15 games, already paid back the money & concern laid out on him

Foggon went on to become top scorer in 1973-74 with 19 goals & 1974-75 with 16 goals, our return back in the top flight

Sadly, 1975-76 he became a bit part player, scoring 3 goals in 18 games, 7 of those games he was used as a sub & then in the summer of 76 was suprisingly sold to Man Utd for £27k when Tommy Docherty flew to America to sign him

In total his appearances for the Boro, 124 appearences, 12 as sub, scoring 49 goals

Not a bad penultimate signing by Stan  but his final signing was far, far better, Graeme Souness followed Alan through the door a month later

What a final pair of signings to end your Boro career bringing in
