Losses of more than £11.7m were recorded at Teesside Airport in 2021.

But bosses say the results are £2 million better than the £13.8 million loss recorded the previous year – pointing to "significant" infrastructure work at the terminal and wider sprawling site.

The financial blow comes as an investment plan set for sign off at next week's Tees Valley Combined Authority (TVCA) aims to plough another £20m into the site.

Gatwick lost £1m per day. That was just one airport after a quick google. After further (but not much) research, there's this

So what is your point regarding Teesside Airport?

Not too dissimilar to Middlesbrough Football Club's current finances then, eh.

So do you think Steve Gibson's corrupt?

Sssssh the Northern Ireland expert who "never ever ever reads over there" will be not happy with you!

Francks left peg

Has anything proper come out to prove he's corrupt? Surely, if that was the case, he would be banged up by now. Everything I read people post that say proves he's dodgy proves no such thing. As far as I'm concerned, he's doing great for the area and thinking outside the box. Done more for the area than labour did on my life time. Christ, labour even shut the steel works.

you are equating a privately owned business with a public ally owned, i.e. me and you, business. OK then

You are desperate.

er the number of people who use it. Circa 40 to 50 million at Gatwick circa 100,000 to 150,000 teesside.

My maths is subsidy of

£75 per passenger at teesside.

£2.50 at gatwick

Looking you are happy with corruption as long as it's Tory Corruption that's fine.

It's simple to me corruption is wrong.

I miss the halcyon days of Stuey Bell and his safe Boro seat - travelling to France home to visit his surgery. He was such a genuine and generous chap, even represented the interests of MP's during their expenses scandal.

all true, and I voted for him. None of that made him corrupt. He was MP too long, my opinion has always been more than 3 elections and then arrogance and pushing the boundaries. Just look at the SNP.

I can see why a specialist on all things football and big business would come to that conclusion.

Teesside airport was taken over prior to COVID which obviously affected the travel industry massively. This was always going to be a long term investment. Judge it in 10-15 years and try not to let your labour bias cloud your judgement Blotty.
Houchen has done more for the area than any other politician or mayor.

Ollyboro

Beyond the PR, what has improved for the people of Teesside under Houchen? We are poorer, less healthy and the roads are fucked.

I wouldn't know who Houchen was if I walked by him in the street. Has he ever been convicted of corruption?

not yet. But when Labour win the next election they will go all guns blazing for him.

The true report on Teesport willbe written.

I could have made a bid of £25m for that land backed up some real people. Knowing the scrap was worth nearly £100m they would have quadruple their money in months. Then sold the land.  My bid would have been £24,999,900 more than Houchens and crew accepted.

No one knew it was for sale, there was no general prospectus.

The point is, people say he's done more than any other politician for this area. Surely the 2 key measurements for success would be health and wealth? I realise his supporters will point out that he's not responsible for those things. So what has he done to improve the everyday lives of the vast majority of the Teesside public? What can he point at and say, "I did this". Have services improved? Are the police more likely to investigate a burglary? Are our major high streets more vibrant? Because if there's nothing in particular that's improved - irrespective of who is responsible for what - then I really can't see how anybody can claim that he's done anything for Teesside.

He was pretty much elected on his vow to take over the airport which he has done. He's battling against mainly labour councils who don't want him to succeed for political reasons. There are jobs and projects coming to the area.
