Boro won thir first game on this day as a league club when beating when Brian Clough scored all the goals as the mighty Boro won 3-0 at Portsmouth, it was Cloughys 11th & final Boro 1st team hat trick, the clubs 19th away & 95th in total, recording our 1st league win of the year, following a draw & a loss

The Boro finished the season in 5th place on 48 points, a point & place above Sunderland but 10 points behind runners up Sheffield United & 11 behind champions Ipswich Town

After finishing the season with 34 league goals out of 40 games Brian Clough was sold the following summer
