6th January 1976 - The last time John Hickton scored a penalty for Boro

On his Boro debut on the 24th September 1966 trailing at home 2-0 to Workington in a 3rd division fixture, Boro were awarded a penalty, no takers, so big John stepped forward, grabbed the ball & smashed the ball into the net, John Hickton penalty king was born, the Boro went on to win that game 3-2

Todays game v Bury, John Hickton put us 2-0 up, doubling our lead after Peter Brine put us one nil up, unfortunately, the total opposite happened & third division Bury came fighting back to win this 3rd round replay 3-2, knocking 1st division Boro out of the FAC

No takers...it's the complete opposite nowadays with everyone wanting to take one.
