September 2nd 1899 on the opening day of our debut season Lincoln City were our 1st ever football league opponents with us losing 3-0 at their place

30th December 1899, the reverse fixture at Linthorpe road ground (before Ayresome Park) when Lincoln became 1st team we had played home & away

When drawing 1-1 at home to Lincoln City Joseph Murphy, who became the 1st Boro player, to not only score a 1st team league hat trick, but also, scoring the hat trick on his Boro debut, was playing his 4th of 6 career games for the Boro, scored his 5th & final Boro goal
